Hi, I have looked through all of the newby threads, as well as tips, hints, FAQ's, Bug Reports, and Technical support but could not find a definitive answer for Civ 3 PTW.

Before I buy this game I want to know wether or not it Civ 3 PTW has the same problem as Civ 3 in that later turns take forever to run. I know that this problem existed in Civ 3, but have not read that this occurs in Civ 3 PTW.

If so, does anyone know the best combination of Map size and number of Cultures for Civ 3 and Civ 3 PTW? I hate to get into my Huge games, with 8 cultures and have it drag down to what feels like ages just waiting for a single turn to process.

Thanks,

They are still there. Against AIs, its a matter of processors: you can only do so many calculations in so little time, so the turns still bog down in the end. The only real way to fix this problem is to get a faster processor, but thats asking a little much, isn't it? ;)

Cg is correct. When I first started playing Civ3 last year, I had a 1.33 Ghz Athlon T-bird CPU, and AI turns on huge maps with 16 civs would take up to 15 minutes late in the game. Today, I have an Athlon XP 2000 installed, and AI turns under those conditions only take 12 minutes. :p

Therefore, through simple extrapolation, one can determine what the ideal cpu would be to run Civ3 with optimum performance: A Pentium 7 12Ghz cpu, which hasn't been invented yet.:D

Nice to see that Firaxis was planing ahead when they designed Civ3, though.:crazyeye:
