I've recently noticed that my feelings for real world civilizations have an impact on my games. For example, I often try to get on the good side of the Japanese. This is more noticable in my current game. I've been a lot more sympathetic to the Russians this time.

I always try to keep Joan alive cause she's cute

Although France is a great country it's got nothing to do with it :)

Until she shaves her head and looks like she wants to gut you

-that's funny. i'm Irish by birth, but schooled in England and will never play as the English in any game ever. even games that are not Civ. and when i'm in a Civ game with the English i always make a point of bashing their heads. i guess i'm working out some stuff. :D

I never play the English for a totally different reason. I like the Brits, in fact my last girlfriend was born and raised and lived in London, I don't like playing them becuase their UU sucks :), I never could understand the thought behind a "sea born" UU

Hmmm....I don't think she's the one who shaved her head......if I recall correctly, French women who took German lovers during the war were subjected to such treatment after the war, n'est-ce pas?

I'm the same as sealman. I don't care who it is, I just destroy them.

I used to work for a Taiwanese Company, Seasonic Power Supplies (you may be familiar with them if you mod computers). Well they were very rude employers and always tried to short me and they lied all the time. Coincidently my boss Vincent looks just like the Moa in Civ3. I love smashing China to pieces with ruthless vendetta. I've thought of changing their name to "Seasonic" and the leadername "Vincent". That would be sweet.

I generally like to play all-European games. Recently won a spaceship victory as the Vikings.

Mebbe I'll try the Americans where the opponents are the Middle Eastern countries... :p

I'm an Englishman living in Wales, and that doesn't surprise me in the slightest. The entire Celtic world is working that one out, especially during the 6 nations rugby.

I don't feel any different to the civ I am playing, but I will try and free stuff to underdog civs as long as I am comfortable.

It´s just a game but I will always feel miserable killing the non-violent Gandhi

"Gandhi was inevitable. If humanity is to progress,
Gandhi is inescapable.
He lived, thought and acted,
inspired by the vision of humanity evolving toward
a world of peace and harmony.
We may ignore Gandhi at our own risk."

Yes, they were. Not the best part of our history :(

Anyway I tend to maintain certain stereotypes towards civs, but based not on the real world, but past games. For instance, I hate Germany because they kept betraying me. And Aztecs. Oh boy do I hate Aztecs.
On the opposite, France has always been "fair" with me.
And I tend to dislike militaristic civs, because, you know, in my eyes militaristic is nothing but being the bully

Heh; that's funny - I do the same as doolally does, despite only being of Irish heritage born and raised in the U.S. (I have been to a lot of the UK though). Seems stupid, and I doubt I would carry it over beyond civ, but I do certainly target the British with extreme prejudice when possible (no offense, Scuffer). My Gallic Swordsmen must get some retribution! I get some satisfaction out of trouncing Rome along the same lines, although that's probably moreso from being good friends with an Italian American and having exchanged good-natured non-PC insults for some time...

Coincidently all the Middle Eastern civs had oil (Babylon, Arabia, Persia, Zulu, Sumeria and Ottoman) and I was playing as the Americans...:hmm:

 I hate that too. He always says something nice, and I hate declaring war. Whenever I do declare war, when I pull up his screen, he always says something like "hello good friend and peaceful neighbor of mine. Care to joinme for some vegetable curry?"

I hate that

Which makes me wonder why they depicted Jeanne d'Arc like that in the modern era. I guess they were trying to portray her as some sort of postmodern, Sartre-loving Marxist fond of frequenting coffee houses and taking part in that student rebellion in '68, but instead all I could think of was that scene from "Band of Brothers" when they ran across that miserable-looking girl who'd been attacked by partisans after liberation, clutching her baby as she walked down the road.

I've taken up a good hatred of the Iroquois, or "Quois", as I've taken to calling them in my most recent game, usually accompanied by some sort of expletive. (Hmmm...perhaps I've been playing Civ too much when I start inventing ethnic slurs for nations that don't exist anymore....) As for Ghandi, well, I've tried curry, and I really don't like it.

And don't get me started on those darned 'Tecs! :) Despite all my efforts, those blood-crazed dogs just keep coming back for more!

Im a patron of france so I ussually like them to be my ally, but I love playing as the byzantines. I hate china...DAMN YOU MAO!!!

When playing Civ2 I liked to play the Sioux and had a large list of town-names which in my ears sounded like Indian names.
So in fact I was a little bit dissapointed when starting to play CivIII because since that you have to look at the traits of a civ and that's beeing the main reason in choosing one for playing. And wether I like or hate one of the other civs in a game only depends on their behavior.;)

I ususally try to destroy the Zulu, however they usually bring it upon themselves early in the game because of their agressiveness. The Portugese are also pretty annoying because in every game I have ever played with them, they build every wonder first.

I try to make friends with the Russians, Japanese, Ottomans (if I'm not them), and Arabians. All other civs are neutral to me.
