Hi, I'm new here, and I know that this has already been stated and answered on other forums, but I'm not sure what to do. I have Civilization 3 Complete version 1.16f. When I tried to install version 1.29, it said that it installed successfully, but it still said version 1.16 in the bottom right corner when I turned on the game. Please help. :(

Welcome :wavey:

1. Where is Civ3 installed on your hard drive?

2. Where did you get the patch installer for version 1.29? There's a link in my sig to one that should work, for version 1.29b2.

3. The version number is usually displayed in the bottom left corner, not bottom right. Was that a typo?

Note that version 1.16f is not Civ3 Complete, it's the original version of Civ3 published by MacSoft, often referred to as "vanilla". Civ3 Complete includes the expansions - Play the World and Conquests, and is published by Aspyr.

1. It is installed in a folder called Civilization III, in the Applications Folder.

2. I got the patch from your sig.

3. Yeah, that was a typo sorry

Hmm. What version of OS X are you running, and what kind of Mac?

I just tried running it here, and it starts up and displays "Preparing to install ... " and then hangs. I'm running OS X 10.5.3 on a Mac Pro, and I probably haven't run it since about 10.3, and maybe never on my Intel CPU. Maybe Apple's OS updates and/or the Intel CPU have broken it.

Well, it ought to work. Do you have another copy of Civ3 on your hard drive anywhere? Maybe the wrong one is being updated?

I tried reinstalling Civ 3 and then using the updater. And it worked... but now the Civ Edit and Play the World are gone...

OK. So I also installed PTW and now that's good, but now I don't have the Civ3Edit, and any version I download just opens and quits.

You have totally confused me!

1. When you said you had Civ3 Complete version 1.16f, and that you were trying to install 1.29 patch, I concluded that you had the old MacSoft vanilla version 1.16f for Macintosh. That version has no Play the World expansion. So if you previously had Play the World, either:

(a) you don't have the MacSoft version; you have Aspyr Civ3 Complete. But that does not come as version 1.16f, and the 1.29b2 patch is not relevant and should not work.

OR

(b) you are talking about Windows software, which is unlikely to run on an eMac!

Please can you help me to understand what is going on?
