Civ 4 Complete

I have a few questions about Civ 4 Complete Edition. (The one with Civ 4, the expansion packs, and Colonization.)

First off, does the game come fully patched? It won't play any BtS mods, and I'm trying to figure out why.

Second, BtS sometimes doesn't work at all. How can I fix this? I double click on the shortcut and wait for a while, but nothing happens!

I'm using Vista, does that matter?

it is fully patched for Civ4/Warlords and BtS, Colonization is unpatched.
what happens when you try to play a mod?
are you running the game with administrator rights? did you install it with administrator rights?

When i try to play a mod, the game shuts down and does nothing. I made a shortcut to the mod, but that doesn't work either. In fact, the shortcut to the regular game barely ever works! And I did install it as the administrator.

EDIT: Oh, and I bought it on Direct 2 Drive. Could that have anything to do with it?

in vista just being an administrator does not mean installing something with admin rights - did you right click on the installer and choose run as administrator?
if not: right click on the shortcut for the core game and choose run as administrator - doies that work?
The mod - is that a downloaded one or one the game ships with?

I clicked "Run as Administrator" this time and it still didn't work. I'm pretty sure I didn't install as administrator, though. Should I uninstall and install as administrator? The mod was downloaded.

try uninstalling the game - when prompted remove all stuff (patches, saves, etc.) then reinstall. make sure to run the installer as admin. if it still fails one can always dig deeper...

I reinstalled, and it worked... for a while. Now I'm right back to where I started! Any other ideas?

patch BtS - to 3.19 (that patch was released half an hour or so ago) - maybe that helps

I think the download places release their own patches.
