I'm going to get the PS3 one its march release in europe and i was wondering wether people think it would be good for civ 4 to be on the PS3. IMO i would love it and would buy it straight away what do you think?

No, no, no. Would be too frustrating to control, no real ability to right click, and just wouldn't feel 'right'. If you were going to convert Civ to one of the Next-Gen consoles, Wii would be best simply because of the controller used.

No. Civilization is a game that really needs a mouse or something rather similar to control well. To put it on the PS3 would likely result in a completly horrid control scheme in which everything takes 10 times longer to do then on a pc.

Only yes because i think you should have the right to choose what you want to play it on. Won't be getting a PS3 myself. I know it will never happen but Civ 4 for DS would be fun even if it had to be scalled down.

My response would be, why are you getting the PS3 at all? ;)

Were I some gaming advisor, I would advise you against the PS3. You'll spend a lot of money on an underwhelming and already declining platform. For the same money you can get both the 360 and the Wii which will both see great growth over the coming years. The PS3 launched too slow and will never gain the market share it needs to attract good game development. Just my advice :)

As far as Civ goes, no. It would be a bad interface on a craptastic platform. Aka a waste of time and money.

.

I wouldn't be able to tolerate Civ without a keyboard for more than a few minutes. OTOH, it would be nice to be able to play from the couch, but I suppose that's what notebooks are for.

Definately no...I need a note pad and a pen for the way I play...I'd go insane.

I voted yes because my first introduction to the Civ series was on the PS1, and it worked out just fine. I imagine that the gameplay would flow as smoothly as it does on a PC, but really who cares? I mean, if you already play it on the PC or MAC, you obviously aren't going to buy a console version of the exact same game. Releasing it for PS3 would give people who only play console games the opportunity to share in the fun though, and maybe one day Sony online games can be played against people using PC's as well, like the XBOX 360 can do now.

Running Civ4 on 256MB of RAM, that'll be fun. And the AI will pwn thanks to awesomeness of Cell.:) And I hope you don't plan playing many playing PS2 games on your PS3 since Europe is getting theirs without the PS2 hardware included instead relying software that only compatible with "a limited range of PlayStation2 (PS2) titles".

To people saying that it shudn't be on the ps3 becuase of fiddly controlls there will be a mouse and keyboard for the ps3 to go with the internet browsing ability, and to those hu say the ps3 is crap they are just being strung along by microsft fan boys becuase the ps3 is way betta than xbox360 and has the processing power of a super computer

Oh, awesome. On top of the $600 we payed for the console and the $60 we payed for the game, we'd have to plop down another $50 or so for a mouse and a keyboard. Then we get to play the game on the actual console, which is underpowered relative to CIV's minimum requirements.

And I'm terribly offended...I'm a Nintendo fanboy, thank you very much!:p

Despite my appreciation for the PS3, it's processing power, etc., it's just not feasable. Even if you had the money for the keyboard and mouse (or happened to already have them), you'd have to have a high def TV to read the information without serious eye strain if at all.

No, Civ is meant for computers

EDIT: OTOH I'd actually be able to play it  My computer(s) can't run the stupid game...i'm stuck with Civ3

the only people that say PS3 is crap are people that are jealous of it coz they can't afford it

That fact that backwards compatibility in the European version of the PS3 is being done in software rather than hardware means that only a limited number of PS2 games will play on the bugger. The initial cost, underwhelming game catalog for the PS3, plus the compatibility issue suggests that the PS3 is a questionable buy for Americans and a dud for Europeans.

The general consensus seems to be that the PS3 is not as good as the 360 or *spit* Wii. Not sure why, but then I'm not up on these things.

I don't think CivIV would work on the PS3. If you buy a console game, you are buying it for speed and action (most of the time anyway - and the average console audience would love a FPS more than a TBS for their console, I would imagine). Civ is basically a board game. Why buy a PS3 for that when you can play it on your handy PC (or Mac, I suppose) that you can also use for letter-writing and doing your taxes?

But then again, I wouldn't listen to me. I don't know much about consoles, although I am a... what's the opposite of fanboy? That's what I am with *spit* Nintendo.

You should have a "don't care" option. It would be a good idea if it were profitable. I personally don't care because if it came to be, I'd still play the PC version. No harm done in it existing though. Some people are pure console gamers, and if there was a market for it, then I say go for it. Otherwise it'd be a waste of resources.

We have a winner for our fanboy of the day award!

More seriously, it just wouldn't be a wise investment on either Take-Two or Sony's part. The controls would be awkward at best, and the market for console peripherals (keyboard and mouse) has always been a niche. Assuming everyone who wants a console Civ4 would purchase a keyboard and mouse would be like assuming everyone who purchasing a driving game will buy a steering wheel - not going to happen. Furthermore, how many people are really going to buy a game that's been out for over 18 months now on the PC? Anyone who wanted to play Civ4 has almost certainly already gotten it. I don't see the sales being high enough to cover development costs.

And for fun:

Your beloved PS3 doesn't seem to be doing too hot there, chief. ;) Now I don't care one iota who "wins" the console wars, but fanboyism is a plague befalling the Internet - and tweaking the noses of fanboys is just too much fun to pass up. :)

I love how you accuse people of being fanboys, whilst being a blatant fanboy yourself.
