Civ 4 looks better on a poorer PC?

I have Civ 4 installed on 2 PC's:

A: 1.3 Ghz,512MB ram, Hercules 3D Prophet MX 64
B: 1.7 Ghz,512MB, Geforce MX 5200
both have XP...

but Civ looks better and runs smoother on machine A?!
any ideas?

The Geforce MX 5200 has horrible shaders. Try downgrading your shaders to 3.0 and see if that does the trick for you.

sounds reasonable...it's the textures that compare the worst.

USE RivaTUNER Then go to cuztomize/direct3d/shaders

to 1.0 not to 3.0
