CIV 4 Newspaper MOD (cant mod though lol)

seems like a cool idea...problem is I cant mod a lick....and I tried learning it but sheesh! If anybodys intrested that has nothing better to do...help would be appreciated...but first I want to know if it is at all feasable....


anybody thats played SimCity 2000 knows what im talking about...every once in a while youd have this cool newspaper pop up and tell u what was going on in your city.................wouldnt that be kinda cool for people to have in CIV?! Ive seen it on the forums on some of the story telling and on the Democracy Games...but none in game!

It would have current relations with other civs (like Mansa Musa gives UN speech and proposes Nuclear Ban treaty)...massive undertakings on the home land and abroad (Washington Begins building Pentagon in Chicago)....and might even have reports of wars with casualties and stuff (3 Brigades of German Panzers Fall as French Hang on in the Battle of Paris)

Have it unlocked when you finish reasearching Paper or find every civilization or something...I can type all the stuff thats in the Newspaper which will be daunting...but is the code feasable because its going to have to have a way to keep track of unit deaths buildings being built relations of civilizations and reasons why their relations are that way....stuff like that....

Or just do what I did, and report it, so a mod can move it.
A lot of people who get told to "ask a mod" doesn't know how to do that.

I have a python script for Interstellar Colonization that I've written to easily make screens with images and text, which could be converted to something like this.

Not to dis your idea, one_man, but I'd prefer a news ticker ala-SimCity 3000.
Spontaneous popups can get annoying when you're in the middle of a massive millitary campaign.

The premise is still good. SimCity is my favorite simulation game aside from Civ, and any features we can borrow from one to the other could only make Civ that much better, IMO.

grey fox Ill get on it as soon as I get home and underhill I was thinking about that a couple of days ago...maybe if u make reading the newspaper an option that comes in as one of thoose comments on the top left that pop up when somebody does something notworthy

Well, you could just have a button on the maint interface that one can click to read the new news from that turn.

You cant. (Yet)

It's not really releasable since its not very userfriendly atm, and it is part of my mod.

But I might, if I get time, make a modcomp of it.

Maybe with this newspaper thingie as the demo-mod.
