Lately my civ 5 hasnt been able to start, it just chrashes on the loading screen no error message or anything. About 2 days ago my multiplayer on all steam games didnt work, so i reinstalled steam, after that civ 5 just dosnt work anymore. Can anyone help me?
sorry for bad english

Got the same issue. Game just won't start anymore, put keeps stuck in the loading screen without any error message whatsoever.
Re-installed last night, but didn't work either :(.

Taking the old files from steam from your paper bin seems to help with singleplayer.

Try deleting the intro movies, as I had a simliar issue and only until I deleted the files for the intros did the issue stop.

Looked at your thread and tried it. didnt work. I found a different way. I had previously deleted and reinstalled alll things in steam exept steam.exe and steamapps.
After this my civ didnt work. So i retrieved the old files from the bin and now it works.:)

If you are using F-Secure (Internet Security) try disabling real time scanning on it. I had the same issue and this got the game working again for me.

I found this hint on the 2K CiV forums, maybe there's more info about it there by now. So check there too if this doesn't help you.

I was wondering if there are any security risks if I disable the real time scanning from F-secure while being connected to the internet? Yesterday I re-started Steam in the offline mode and turned off my WLAN modem altogether before I disabled F-secure, the game worked this way too.

You don't have to disable it alltogether (I also don't like to do that), instead you can exclude the CiV folder explicitely under F-Secure settings. Worked for me.
