I am astounded and literally am shocked with the new Civ 5 release coming *this fall :D I am curious though... As Civilization Revolution was for Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, would Civ V be released this way? I have seen the galleries and it looks quite processable by the current generation of gaming consoles. I have searched around and haven't found anything on this... Any news? Thanks.

(Actually I bought a PS3 a couple of months ago and Civ V would be the king of my arsenal of games and I would be so happy to find out if it were on this system).

Although the consoles could probably run it, I can't imagine it would play well with a controller, and although the PS3 supports a mouse and keyboard, few people seem to be aware of that.

I think Civ Rev should, if anything, be proof Civ V won't be on consoles. When they wanted to do a Civ game on consoles they created a new one from the ground up. Past ports of the series have been generally considered as failures.

I used to play the crap out of Civ2 on Playstation 1. It wasn't as hard as you would think. If you have a person that knows how to handle an interface change from a keyboard/mouse to joystick, it actually works pretty well.

I don't know any specifics on Civ5, but from what I've been reading recently, it isn't that hard to compile games to run on the xbox, at least compared to the inherent complexity of writing a game.

You can play Civ 4 with minimal use of the keyboard. I actually think it'd be fairly easy to do a CiV port for consoles. The real question is whether console gamers would buy it in enough numbers to make it worthwhile.

Civ4 eats 2 GB of system ram for breakfast on huge terra.
Your PS3 has 256 MB of system ram + 256 MB of vidram, how you imagine it running, like it should? FYI x360 may be bit better at running Ram heavy game, like Civ,as it has 512 MB of shared memory.

Only if it can. I've played huge terra on a system with only 1 gb ram and it ran fine.

I would be astonished if Civ 5 was unable to run on a modern console. The only issue here is whether or not the limited controls could be used - and obviously if there is even any market for it since many people will probably go for the PC version simply because it's what they're used to for Civ.

Comparing console specs and computer specs is useless.
Fallout3 on my comp can't run fully even with 3 gig's of memory, but it runs smoothly on XBOX360 and looks better too.

It has always been like this, Consoles just work in different way and they save all the resources to the game itself, not running OS and such.

I think with the current graphics and one unit per tiles its very possable it will be on consules, but like everyone else has said "will average gamers buy it?"

Did CivRev get good sales?

In my current game (huge terra) my PC dies. Athlon XP 2400,2 GB of Ram and radeon x1950 Pro 512 MB.Maybe it's vidram, but game goes on 1 GB of virtual anyway. So I doubt it would work even remotely good on 256 MB (ps3).
FYI Fallout 3 works fine on my PC.Nothing fancy, shutters from time,to time, but works.
Second thing,I managed to run vanillia Civ4 on p3 700,256 MB and gf2,thats below first Xbox spec (more ram, still, windows) But it quite far from being playable.
Comparing PC and console specs has sense,if we are discussing game, that doesn't allow for creative savings. Which Civ4 is. Doesn't matter, how optimized their OS is,it still asks for tons of memory.

Why do they still make horrible consoles ram wise. It's not THAT expensive to be more RAM for you computer, so why don't they put more in consoles?
