Hi,

I have owned CIV 5 for a few weeks now and absolutely love the game, my PC had all the minimum requirements to run the game and I had no issues playing it until I got to the later stages of the game on a "huge" map. Basically as the screen scrolled from one unit to the next it started to "stutter" and sometimes would freeze. I thought this may be an issue with my RAM and Video Card. My original PC information was as follows:

Windows XP (SP3)
RAM 2.0GB
GeForce 512Mb 8600 GT Video Card
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33Ghz

I upgraded my RAM and Video Card recently and I am now running the following specs:

Windows XP (SP3)
RAM 3.25GB
GeForce 1GB 2400 GT
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33Ghz

Everytime I go and start a new game or load a game I get to the loading Screen (with your nations dialogue etc) and just before I get the option to "begin Journey" I get weird flashing coloured boxes and distorted graphics etc.
Is my Video Card no good or do I need to alter something with respects to the games files? I have an option to exchange the Video Cards etc and I still have my old one...Any help would be appreciated. (I have tried the new card/RAM on Call Of Duty 4 and Black Ops and it works just fine...CIV 5 is the only issue..and yes I have the drivers all up to date)

Cheers

Did you try to uninstall and then reinstall the video driver? If you have Civ5 on a DVD, a quick uninstall/reinstall might also worth a try.
There is indeed the possibility that you have a defective hardware component (video card, memory, mainboard), but it's more likely a software problem.
The easiest thing to test on the hardware side is just to remove the additional RAM you bought, and see if the problem persists.

My upgraded RAM and Video Card works a treat on every other game on my PC, in fact it has enhanced the gameplay.
I will try the RAM thing that was suggested, I was just under the impression that the more RAM would make the gameplay more easier.
The flashes I get etc are like distorted Graphics etc. I can still click on the "option" tabs available etc but because there is sooo much distortion of the graphics I can't see or do anything.
Everything up to the point of clicking on "begin your journey" looks and works fine.
Is there are way I can take a screenshot of it and post it here so you can see what I am describing (hard to describe).
Cheers for the help, I really appreciate it....I'd Ring Firaxis but Im in Australia and the number charges $2.48 a minute...talk about bad customer support!
