Civ 5 Updates

I've had some problems on Civ 5 multiplayer and was just wondering if there is anyway to make sure that Steam has downloaded the latest update for Civ 5.I know there was a patch last year that was supposed to help with multiplayer problems, and I've read that Steam is supposed to update automatically.But when me and my brother play on LAN we still have problems.So is there anyway to make sure I've got the new update?

The current version number is 1.0.1.511 and can be seen in the main menu (example screenshot).
