So, in the civ series we have mostly seen a cylindrical world wrap, where going around the world at the equator is the same distance as going around the world at the arctic circle, essentially playing on a rectangle (As in, when you look at the game, it looks like a rectangle). Which got me thinking - why are edges a bad thing ? Why not reach an edge and teleport to the other side of the map ?
The advantage of this would be we could play a map with dimensions like say the eckert II projection (elongated hexagon) or a diamond, where circumnavigation is actually longer around the equator than the arctic circle.
The main disadvantage is that the area around the edges, well it might not look as nice I guess ? Or like, be as intuitive, like how to communicate to a new player that you can walk off the edge of the world and get teleported to the other side (Assuming player is not flat earther in the first place).
Thoughts ?
