Alhough I guess this question has already been covered, I haven't found it in the recent topics... What do you think about the different civs' characters according to their colours ? According to me, I'd say the yellow are really pefectionnists and tend to build large cities etc..., but I'm more intersted in the strategy issue, i.e. AI behaviour towards other players. An example would be a funny thing about the light blue civs (Persians, Americans and Chinese...): have you also noticed how they love to build a tiny city just 1 square from one of yours (directly on your territory) just to bother you and oblige you to crush it, ruining your reputation ? Of course, reputation is not a big issue since you'll end up crushing everyone anyway (uuuh, uuuh), but I do like to go on dominating the world with a "spotless" reputation as long as I can... Another example : do you also find that the orange civs have an amusing tendancy to betrayal and sneak attacks ?

Actually I think light blue civs are more interested in research than other color civs. White color civs tend to be dangerous (Romans and Russians come to mind). What color is the Spanish civ? (yellow??) They tend to be arrogant and it's hard to get tribute from yellow civs. I don't know what to say about blue civs...

Arrgh! Those spanish bastards... They certainly *ARE* arrogant, and tend to be rather highly militaristic to boot. Of course, the white and the dark blue Civ's tend to be rather leaning towards warfare. The light blue Civs tend to be somewhat more civil, as are the yellows ones ( spanish excluded ). The purple ones perplex me, the mongols certainly should ( and are ) be very militaristic, and perhaps the Sioux as well ( I'm not very knowledged about them ) but the Indians?? I mean, can you picture yourself Gandhi rallying his huge army to crush all resistance? I can't, but yet he does...
And the orange civilizations, well, the Greeks ( especially under Alexander ) were a warrior people, as were the Carthaginians under Hannibal. And the british, no denying they've been involved in more wars than I can count...

yeah, people always find this hilarious... the peace-loving Ganhdi ia a monster in Civ2.

I personnaly think that some of the colors have been mixed up. Why are the germanz blue? They should be orange, and the english should be blue.

do you realise how dumb what you are saying is? the Russians, Romans, and Celts are all white. the Russians, Romans, and Celts are all agressive, the whites are not agressive...

take each Civ it its Civ. Americans are good at science, Russians at military, not the Whites and Lt.Blues.

Whats the point of living if you cant do anything stupid?

I've never observed that color has anything to do with anything, except for one minor point. If I don't build the Pyramids, I find they are usually built by whichever yellow civ exists in the current game. Aside from this, a point which is probably just an accident of my own selective observation anyway, I've never seen any correlation between civ color and behavior.

I was playing with the Vikings last night and I found that they were absolutely terrible at trade, happiness and research (so everything apart from warmongering) until I changed to a democracy. My strategy is the same or at least very similar to other games with other civs who have all prospered. Is this something to do with the Vikings or is it more to do with the map?
Also, when I had a couple of unhappy people in one of my cities I changed one of the inhabitants to an entertainer with no effect. However, on making him a tax collector, one of the unhappy chappies disappeared to be replaced with a happy one. What on earth (well, random map) was going on?

I believe every PC run Civ, runs the same way, at least I have never seen variation in any of mine, however, before I knew what 'riot factor' was, I had my doubts.

Regarding the elvis/bean-counter situation - remember that a tax collector also incresases luxuries, so maybe if your luxuries were of a very high percentage, he could have bumped up happiness enough to make somebody happier - although, I must admit, its GOTTA be tough to top Elvis...

So basically:
Green = Militarist expandist (BIG TIME)
Orange = Hostile expandist neighbors (Given chance, they would expand and kill their neighbors
Blue = Peaceful researchers (civilized, not too aggressive and happy to research)
Purple = Survivist (Of course given a chance, they would expand by hell)
Yellow = Perfectionist (I hardly see them expanding beyond their land)

I think its more likely to do with the size of your empire, your level etc.
