Civ design challenge

Whoaa. Great work= +25% production? OP. And what you mean upon waging war? For the duration of war?

Yeah the Production thing is OP, and yes its for the duration of the War. But I said it was subject to reform :p.

State of Chu
Capital: Ying
Leader: Chancellor Wu Qi

UA: Wuzi
Adopting a Social Policy temporarily increases :c5production: production towards land military units by 15% and garrisoned units receive a free promotion. Completing a Social Policy Tree temporarily boosts :c5food: growth by 20% in cities near other Civilizations.*

UU: Lingyin
Aside from the regular abilities of the :c5greatperson: Great Writer, may move :c5citizen: Citizens from the :c5capital: Capital to another city or hurry production of buildings a maximum of 3 times before being expended. When garrisoned, increases :c5production: Production by 10% and provides free XP to newly trained land military units.

UB:
Yields +1 :c5culture: Culture and provides a sum of :c5culture: Culture whenever a :c5greatperson: Great Person is expended unlike the Temple it replaces. Has with a random :greatwork: Great Work Slot which when filled, yields +1 :c5faith: Faith. When filled with an Artifact or Great Work from another Civilization, yields and additional +1 :c5faith: Faith and +1 :c5culture: Culture.**

Spoiler :
*Counts for cities less than 7 tiles away from a city of another civ or city-state. Forward settling AI's are now less annoying... if not just a tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny-tiny bit
**Artifacts from city-states also count

This design is mainly aimed at representing Wu Qi's reforms to take Chu from a highly corrupt and weakened state into a powerful country once more. The main reform which the design reflects is the moving of the nobility from the capital to border regions to reduce the power and reach of the corrupt nobility, as well as to populate the borders between Chu and the other states of the north. Furthermore, the reforms also allowed the state train a more professional military from the funds saved. The Mù is a more broader inclusion rather than a specific reference to Wu Qi, it's there more to tie the civ together with it's cultural focus (Didn't feel right if the UU got another bonus related to culture since it already ties back to the production/military/growth aspect of the UA). Though please let me know if 'Mù' is even the right word for Tomb (Burial Tomb is already taken by Egypt and Tomb by itself might seem a bit too generic).

Yeah... Is it vote time already?
My vote goes to Kerfuffle... It wasn't an easy choice though.

Yes please!
(My vote goes for Kerfuffle)

And so, totally unopposed with 1 vote to his opponents collective 0 - Kerfuffle is the winner of that civ challenge! Congratulations on the victory Kerfuffle, a true landslide - its fairly rare for any candidate to receive 100% of the popular vote so you should feel all kinds of warm and fuzzy inside.

So, while idvhl is busy working on his breakthrough into the world of civilisation modding, your own resident splitaholic will be adopting the civ design challenge for the time being! So I'm proud to give this thread a much needed kick-up-bum and get things moving around here! No this is not a hostile takeover. All resistance is futile shh.

So, for this week - the chosen civilisation is...

:c5war: The Delhi Sultanate :c5war:
1206-1526

The Sultanate of Delhi, established in 1206 by a Turkic slave named Qutbu l-Din Aibak was a large Muslim sultanate which dominated India during the high middle ages. Though Qutbu died just four years after assuming power, the sultanate he'd created would grow into a powerful regional hegemon. Straddling two great rivers, the Ganges and the Indus, the Sultanate controlled the fertile and densely populated Indo-Gangetic plain, which remains one of earths most populous regions to this day and served as an ample powerbase for the infant Sultanate. Though the majority of the Sultanates subjects were Hindu, it remained staunchly Muslim and rallied against both the local heathens to south, waxing and waning across the subcontinent and heathen invaders from the North, successfully repelling the Mongol invasions which had felled far mightier kingdoms.

The nations complex blend of Turkish, Muslim, Hindu and Indian influences led to the emergence of unique art, architecture and culture which set the stage for the eventual Mughal supremacy in the region and no doubt left a lasting cultural influence on the region long into the present day. The kingdom reached its peak under the Tughlaq dynasty in the 14th century when, through vicious conquest, the Delhi sultanate exploded across southern India, expanding its realm to over a million square miles from Tranquebar to Lahore. In 1526, the last sultan of Delhi rode out from his palace to quash the ambitions of an upstart Afghan chieftan named Babur. The rest is history.

Staunch defenders, aggressive invaders, pious Muslims and a cultural powerhouse which laid the foundations of Indo-Islamic art, architecture and writings. I look forward to seeing what everyone can do with them!

I hope to see lots of entries for my first attempt at managing this! Anyway, enough talking, lets get some designs rolling!

Delhi Sultanate

Leader: Alauddin Khijli

UA - Anwatan: Upon capturing a City, all Religious Buildings in that City are destroyed and you receive Gold and Faith for it. Constructing Religious Buildings and converting Cities yields Faith - doubled on Conquered Cities.

UB - Lats: Temple replacement. If the city follows your Religion, it generates no Occupied Unhappiness.

UU - Jagirdars: Longswordsman replacement. Available at Civil Service rather than Steel. May be used to convert Cities. Takes 25% less damage from Ranged Attacks if adjacent to a City following your Religion.

Done!

Kerfuffle is the GOAT.

Anyway, here's my design:

Delhi Sultanate

Leader: Alauddin Khilji

UA: Desecration and Restoration: Conquered cities gain +1 :c5production: production for every building destroyed upon conquest and +1 :c5faith: faith for every religion, excluding your own, that no longer exists in that city. Rebuilt buildings yield +1 :c5goldenage: Golden Age points.

UU: Ghulam: Replaces Knight. No city combat penalty and starts with Cover I. Upon capturing a city, all :c5faith: Faith and :c5gold: Gold producing buildings are destroyed and you gain a lump sum of the yields depending on the number of respective buildings destroyed.

UB: Qutb Minar: Replaces Temple. +1 :c5culture: Culture for every religion that was present in this city upon it's capture. +2 :tourism: Tourism upon researching Flight. +1 :c5happy: Happiness if the majority of the city's citizens follow your religion.

The Delhi Sultanate was notorious for their desecration and destruction of Hindu temples and monuments along with their persecution of Hindus. I made that the focal point for this design.

Materials from destroyed buildings were used to build mosques and other buildings which is why the UA has a production bonus. The UU is there to increase the number of buildings destroyed. If it's effect is unclear here's how it works: you gain faith from the number of religious buildings destroyed and gold from the number of gold producing buildings destroyed. The UB's culture bonus comes from the fact that the Qutb Minar is one of the first and most famous examples of Indo-Islamic architecture.

My turn my turn!

Sultanate of Delhi(Alauddin Khiliji)
UA: Faithful Construction
Upon conquering a city, receive a :c5production: production boost in a city of your choice based on the number of buildings destroyed, and gain :c5gold: gold when reconstructing a destroyed building(increased with followers of other religions). May buy religious units with :c5gold: gold and receive :c5faith: faith from conversions.

UB: Shahana-i-mandi
Replaces market. +2 :c5gold: GPT from merchant specialists, and +1 :c5gold: gold from other specialists if the city follows your religion. Doubles religious pressure for your :c5faith: religion from :trade: trade routes.

UU: Ghilman
Replaces knight. Cheaper, and does not have a penalty against cities. Upon capturing a city, destroys all religious buildings in the city and grants :c5gold: gold for each building destroyed based on the number of citizens following other religion. If stationed in a city, grants :c5faith: faith when a citizen is converted to your religion.

Urdnot, that's a bloody civ. And not in a good way.

I know its technically been more than a week but what with the site being down and me being in Spain its been a bit confusing, so I'm hesitant to allow voting straight away. Get your last minute submissions in if you're planning on taking part people, I'll probably start the votes tomorrow.

And so, totally unopposed with 1 vote to his opponents collective 0 - Kerfuffle is the winner of that civ challenge! Congratulations on the victory Kerfuffle, a true landslide - its fairly rare for any candidate to receive 100% of the popular vote so you should feel all kinds of warm and fuzzy inside.[/SIZE].

Kerfuffle is the GOAT.

Hahaha  I should have put up a sticky note reminding me to actually vote, kept forgetting to do so :S

This is starting to get really frustrating, when is this design challenge going to do something European for a change, err...

Delhi Sultanate
Iltutmish
UA: The Sun of the World
Upon capturing a City, receive a sum of :c5faith: Faith for every Religous Building destroyed, +2 :c5production: Production for every Building of the same type reconstructed, Religous Pressure is increased by 1 for every Declaration of War.
UU: Ghilman (Knight)
Slightly cheaper than the Unit it replaces, upon killing an Enemy Unit it generates :c5faith: Faith equal to the amount of Experience gained and does not suffer a Combat Penalty against Military Units or Cities.
UB: Minar (Temple)
+1 :c5faith: Faith and +1 :c5production: Production for every Citizen converted within the City, provides an additional 15 Experience to Military Units within the City, costs no Maitnence.

I wus literally planning a European civ next - I've a hastily drawn table with some broad categories and I'm going to try make sure I never have more in one category than the others. So I've currently got a tick in the Muslim, Late Medieval and Indian boxes, so we won't have another Muslim or Indian civ until we've gone through some European, African, East Asian, European, American, Christian, Pagan, Buddhist, Hindu, Modern, Classical, Industrial etc. etc. etc. so dont chu worry about representation Howard.

Europe, meh, there's like dozens of civs from that continent. Compare with Africa, which is grossly underpopulated in the mod world.

But is totally overpopulated with options... How about Great Moravia or Bohemia, or a Aragon challenge? Or maybe the franks? I know they've been already created by JFD, but I'm pretty sure there's more to do with them except Charlemagne, no?
