It was going to happen at some point. And this is that point. I feel all the moaning and slating of the game is just wasted energy. What we have here is simply the natural death of the civ franchise.
Civ has been going for coming on 2 decades now. How many games have survived that time? None! Why? Because computer games (like us) have a lifespan. Civ, due to its awesomeness, has had a particularly long life span. Unfortunatly the civ juggernaught has breathed its last and should be laid to rest.
There is no point in all this CPR everyone seems to be attempting to revive the corpse, it will do no good. We should just accept the fact that Civ is gon never to be seen again and find something else to do with our lives.
Of course we should grieve. We have spent a huge portion of our lives with dear old Civ. But as we do to 'real' loved ones, we must come to terms with the demise of Civ and move on.
There are so many places you can turn to for help. Counciling, doctors, comfort with family, or simply getting a life. But at the end of the day what you must realise is that Civ is dead.
I cried. I cried all night when I realized I would never see my beloved Civ again. I think of the times we shared, the foes we vanquished, the cities we founded, the great wonders we built. But that is gone. Consigned to the history books that Civ so beautifully allowed me to write.
Although Civ is dead. It can live on in our hearts. Don't forget Civ. Tell your children, and their children about it. Let Civ live on in your stories. Never let the legend of Civ die. There will be a day when your grandchild will say "Grandpa grandpa, tell me about Civilization again". You will sigh that weary sigh but in your heart you will be glad that they asked. Because you know in telling that story for the umpteenth time that you will relive some of the magic that was playing Civ.
We can get through this. We need to pull together. Comfort each other. Look out for each other. We are Civ brothers. That is a bond greater than blood. Together we can move on.
RIP Civ
We love you.
