Hello Good People,

Back in October of 1995, two programmers from Denmark (Kristoffer & Sune) decided that it was time for a sequel to CivDOS. These authors coded a very rudimentary game (in Pascal I believe) and posted their work on the net. Since that time their website at the university has faded into cyberspace.

I've had the good fortune to pick up the files once more and offer them as a tribute to old memories. You can get them here:

Click on the pic, the download links are at the bottom of the Antiquity page.

I also call out to any programmers and developers who might be interested in picking up this project. While it is hardly finished, I think it has merit as far as a direction that CivDOS might have gone. There could be a really good game in the idea.

Any comments are welcome - there is a bit of info on the page link. This is a DOS program. I did not test it in DOSBOX, but I tested it a long time ago and it worked on 98SE or 95 I think --it did not work for me recently in XP but I didn't try very hard either. I have played the game though and it seems unfinished.

Cheers,

Firstly wow! That's so kewl! I thought I found everything on the net to do with civ1.. obviously not. Where did ya find that gem?

Okay, so I'm playing it in DOSBox now. Check out the number of civs you can choose! o_O I count 30! Holy heck. And the designers were planning to allow you to play a game with all of them in it o_O

Okay, so I hit a button and the whole map lit up. It appears to be of earth. It's pretty darn big. This is totally rad. There are many different menus with awesome options (click on an unit and get the usual fortify etc PLUS 'enpower' 'massacre' and more)

You got a caste system, terrian height, and---- .... Oops, crashed it *blush*

This was really going to be some sequel.

:p

Trada you are right...I thought of this old game some time ago and planned to run an article on it soooner but it slipped my mind. Then I was burning a couple of gigs of games and stumbled over the folder...I did a search and found the source at Programmer's Heaven, I think.

Well, it is a jewel isn't it! But definitely not finished. Someone could pick up the pieces or at the very least the structure...

So you like those 30 civs...hehe...that is cool too isn't it. It does crash if I remember right and this is probably one reason the authors abandoned the project. However, it is such a kewl idea that I had to let everyone of you die hards in on it.

At one time there were four Civ I projects in the works when Antiquity was born...then they disappeared too. Those other projects didn't have any downloads so that's probably why.

I may have to advertise to programmers to pick up this project...it's just too good to let fall into oblivion.

Any thoughts people?

Best to all,

CivPartisan
