Civ II file formats?

Hi all, I'm trying to find some information on Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri file formats, especially the maps (.MP) and scenarios. I think they are the same as Civ II.

I have found some editors, so the file formats must be known, but my Google Fu is weak and I haven't been able to locate anything.

Thanks, that was a great link. I had been to that site before but I missed the file format links.

Unfortunately, Civ and SMAC don't seem to be very similar. The good news is that your excellent link prodded me to get off my butt and open the map file with WinHex. There's a few odd strings in the file, and searching for one yeilded this:

Not complete, but it'll save me some work. Thanks!
