Ah, a new addiction. I ripped open the box from Amazon and immediately installed. Since I'm an experienced Civ III player I set my first game up at Monarch difficulty with normal AI aggression — Huge Continental map, Random Nations selected all around. I was hoping to get one of the new expansion Nations, but I ended up with Babylonia. Oh, well. I'll offer my initial thoughts and perceptions as the game progresses. Thanks, Aspyr — let's hope for smooth sailing....

Just so you can drool over it, here's my first C3C start. I ended up as Iroquois. My initial position was where the worker is - I moved south to be on the coast, but it ended up being a lake. Oh well.

No, you're not seeing things. That's FOUR cows. Mine one of them, and I've got a perfect 3-4 4-turn settler factory. With a SINGLE tile improvement. My basic reaction sequence went like this:

"Ah, two cows and a river. Nice start! Too bad I'm on one of them, I'll have to move."
"Oh, a third cow. REALLY nice."
*Found city, revealing fourth cow* *pass out*

And then a little bit later, my culture grows to pop that hut.
"A friendly Illinois Settler wants to join our Despotism."
*pass out again*

Hm, I didn't think C3C was shipping w/ an editor? ;)

Hey, share the love. Where's that start file? :D

Ok, I hate to point out the obvious bad joke punchline, but "you're having a cow". :)

My C3C is doing great, been playing back and forth between my G5 and that 400mhz Cube and everything is being good so far. Btw the volcanos are great, especially when they destroy the pile of Medieval Infantry Zulu's getting ready to pounce on a defenseless warrior.
Hope everyone gets their C3C soon, so they can have as much fun as I am.

The only "glitch" I've noticed so far in my game is when the computer auto-saves each turn, the music cuts in and out. It's kind of annoying and I know the GOTY version from MacSoft did not do this. I'm probably nitpicking.

It doesn't seem to do that on my system. What are you running on?

I noticed that too, however it was a brief glitch, it sounds like a quick bell ring on mine. Then the turn continues.

Yep. It was handy, and I've got a reasonable amount of space I can use for a while, so I didn't worry much about it.

Well, I hope your audience has plenty of bandwidth. And your disk space is not the only consideration, Thunderfall may not be so cavalier with his server capacity!

It's not using any CivFanatics server capacity. Take a closer look at the URL - it's a direct link to one of my personal accounts, so it never goes through CFC servers at all.

~SPOILER ALERT~ (Beamup's Iroquois.Sav)
Hey Beamup, no disrespect, but that Iroquois save is far from ideal. I agree that the initial city is a Settler factory, but the initial small island is devoid of any luxury items and only has a single horse. After 10-15 settlers, you are forced to go out to sea for more land. Sure there is a nice smaller island just to the west, but by the time I advance to any real seafaring tech, the rest of the map is taken.

The starting location is too isolated and just not big enough to become a real superpower, at least not how I play the game. (They I don't claim to be the worlds smartest player.)

But don't get me wrong, I appreciated your upload and look forward to more of your saves. Especially if it starts with a fantastic Settler Factory such as your Iroquois.Sav

I'm having an opposite experience. The cows allowed me to settle the starting landmass quickly. I built several curraghs and deiscovered the smaller landmass to the west and to the east. I lost several suicide curraghs along the way, especially when discovering the isolation Pharaohx discusses. But upon discovering Philosophy, I earned a SGL. I saved it for Map Making, where I then used the SGL to rush the Great Lighthouse. I would like to be able to discover, and reach, another civ in time to unleash the Iroquois' UU (Mounted Horseman; 3-1-2). I would like to know how many rivals are in the save file. I'm assuming it's a large map.

F10 screen will tell you that - click Space Race and it'll tell you which civs you need a spy in. At 4000 BC you need one in all of them :p

Now that makes better sense. I'll restart and go straight for map Making...my style always goes for Construction because I want to build the Pyramids and save turns rather than build granaries.

The extra seafaring ability from the Great Lighthouse would be of great help. The Romans got to it first in my game.

My game's gone more like dojoboy's. I quickly figured out it was an island, and got multiple curraghs out early. I'd also chosen to go for a Republic slingshot, so MM was convenient anyway, and Galleys were actually the first new unit I developed.

But to answer dojoboy's questions, there are 7 rivals and it's a Huge map.
