Also, people are selling it pre sealed on ebay for a "buy it now" price of £21.99 + £1.10 P&P. I assume if you bought it today and send them the money buy paypal you'd have it before the 4th. So quicker than the highstreet and cheaper.

They're offering it for £17.99 and free P&P. It seems too good to be true.

They're so cheap because they're based in Jersey, where taxes are rather low...

I'd be very wary about buying it from someone on eBay. They've probably not actually got it yet and will send it out after it's release next week. I've had this problem with people on eBay before.

As for Play.com, I've only used them once before for a pre-release order. That was for Cossacks 2 back in April. The game arrived the day before the actual release date as I got lucky with the Royal Mail. It isn't that Play are trying to get the game to you early, they're just trying to make sure you get it on the day it's released. If the tides are right and the Royal Mail manages to do their job properly you may just get lucky.

Just a warning to anyone who's ordered from Amazon.co.uk; They changed the price from £25 to £20 and the old orders still seem to have both the old release date and old price on them.

I doubt they'd still charge £25, but it might be worth cancelling and reordering it to be safe.

I've changed my order to Play.com though, they seem to have a better reputation and they're cheaper. Plus I don't want to take my chances on eBay.

I could put up with a box and player-aids in German as long as I can install the game in English. Christ, I actually installed Silent Hunter in German for the atmosphere... it's usually possible for a Rammstein fan to figure out.

Gather round children while I tell you my tale

I went shopping in the local Tesco's this morning and as usual I browsed along the DVD/CD/Books and games shelf and there it was on the shelf - 'Civilization 4 - PC'; Right next to the sign saying 'Temporaly out of stock' and under a big gap where the game would be if they were selling it

As it was a Saturday and busy in the shop I was unable to locate a staff member to quiz on the subject of Civilization 4 and why they should be selling me a copy.

So I came home and got out my trusty stead so I could visit the other 3 Tesco stores within cycling distance, and sure enough in each one there was a nice gap where the game will be when they decide to sell it .

Unfortunately the shelf itself was labled only in the first store I visited, but I can tell you CivIV will be at number 2 in Tesco's chart when it is available. I will leave the question of how a game that is not available can get to number 2 in a chart for people more inteligent then me

Nope. I'm not expecting mine until Thursday at the earliest, anything earlier will be a bonus.

Don't them incompitence on the side of the publishers stop you buying from Play. I have ordered £100's of stuff from them and never had a problem. Plus you are unlikely to get it from anywhere else any sooner

oh, and although im on a notebook with an ATI Radeon X300 in it, i didn't have to make any adjustments to anything to get the game running so its not all doom and gloom on that side of things....

I have been wondering perhaps if those problems are because Americans got it on 2XCD whilst we get it on DVD..... (I'm guessing the guys and girls who tested the game did so on DVD, so maybe thats why the problem as picked up). of course, this might be just crazy talk.

Anyways, good to here it works on yours, I have a ATI Radeon X600 Pro so hopefully when play.com finally sends it to me it will work ok!

I've also gone for a Play.com pre-order. I was hoping to get lucky and buy it from a store early since I know they already have them in storage but it wasn't to be. With France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Austria all enjoying the game already I have to say I'm pretty irritated. It just seems really arbitrary.
