CIV IV makes Civ III look like "Oregon Trail"

Ahh, Karateka. I still remember being all excited when I finally got to the girl at the end the first time, only to be shocked when she kicked me dead in one blow since I was still in my combat stance...

I know... that was brutal

lol, oregon trail... shit that brings back memories... "jill has been bitten by a snake", "joe has contracted malaria" or the dreaded "the wagon's axle has snapped"... they arent the exact quotes, but its been so long i cant remember them... what i do remember is going to town on those poor oxen with my rifle, and never being able to carry it all back ;)

Why exactly are we suppose to "let go" of prior Civ games ??? Isn't that what made us "Civfanatics" to begin with ??? :D
Anyway,, you CAN like Civ 4 but just don't like a prior version better ???
.. Just because something is NEW and shiny does not make it better made, and not only in games..

i don't mean let go like forget about civ III, i mean try to play CIV with an open mind. Because most of use played CIV III so much, you approach CIV IV with certain assumptions about the gameplay and stategy. When CIV IV varies from what we are used to, people tend to look at the change negatively at first. its a natural reaction, but one that people should try to overcome.

also, i think Civ IV is better becaue of the deep balanced gameplay, the graphics are just icing

by the way does anyone remember "Lemon-Aid Stand"? that was a fav as well

The big question is, how many can remember playing Oregon Trail on the Apple ][?

I do. My friend had it. I saw a PC version many years later.

BTW, I wonder if the title is a good thing, or a bad thing. ;) Look at it this way, it'll be patched for sure. All games are (usually).

Used to play oregon trail on the old Apples in my elementary school! Carmen Sandiago also. I remember in middleschool, we had a multiplayer version of it across the printer lan. I used to run around the lab, after I beat everyone screaming in their faces. When I think back, I think I might of took it a little to far.

I also remember the original printshop we used to have, you could build castles with dragons and they were animated. It always pissed me off that the printed version just wasn't the same.

But speaking of Oregon Trail and Carmen Sandiago, Does anyone remember playing the Underground Railroad? THE MOSS ALWAYS GROWS ON THE NORTH SIDE!!! I think, I could never get that right. :crazyeye:

Also some fishing game, I can't recall the name, but I know it had alot to do with bait. Oh well.

I do. I loved Oregen Trail 1 and 2 so much that I bought it so I could play it at home. Ah the memories.

hehe Orgeon Trail, Wizardy (proving grounds of the mad overlord), Ultima, Cramen Sandiego, loderunner and my personal favorite - Bruce Jenner decatholon... my "1" and "2" keys got a total workout, as well as trying the shotput with the paddle things...

apple IIe was greatest gaming rig of all time!!!! :D

Oh great, now you are making ME reminisce ;)! I remember I used to play this game in the High School computer labs (circa 1985) called something like 'Kingdom'! It was completely text based and involved you-as the ruler of a nation-to adjust allocations of resources on a month by month basis, then you would see how it impacted on your population and stuff. It was almost like a 'proto-civilization' game, though not quite as addictive. It is probably where I developed my love-affair with games where I run whole nations!

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.

OMG! You have no idea how old I feel now. I remember playing Oregon trail in school on the Apple IIE. And I *loved* Carmen Sandiego!

Big question: Did any of you have that program in school for learning how to use the Apple IIE? It had a rabbit, and you learned how to move it through a maze to get to a carrot? I remember running it into walls and such and laughing when it sat there and tapped it's foot.

It wasn't long afterwards that I got started on Zork and Winnie the Pooh text games....

Nice link. I lost a family member by rolling my wagon through 3 feet of water. :/ Anyway, let's get this back on topic. ;)
