my first post but I'm here to stay gents/ladies...

3 previous Civs - 3 previous girlfriends!

A true but fairly unrelated fact for you fact fans.

However will Civ IV be the nail in the coffin for girlfriend number 4, technically it shouldn't but these days I haven't got as much free time to play Civ IV due to work etc etc, so girlfriend time will definately be making way.

So what if it comes to an ultimatum?

Should I back my words with nuclear weapons or will I have to offer gold, probably per turn??

LOL

Well, unlike previous civs, multiplayer actually works, so you should introduce her to the game and then play multiplayer with her :) (aww, how cute!)

Depends how much you like her. If she's not worth it this may be a good time to cancel the RoP and declare war.

Girlfriend IV: "That's it I am fed up is it me or that stupid game."

Boyfriend: "Well, if you make me choose there is only one sane answer. Goodbye"
*Gets back to Mao Tse Tung, Bismarck and his loyal friends, declares war on them and blasts them off the planet*

HILARIOUS! I agree with minger. and isn't that really what we all want? a girl who likes u AND plays civ w/ u!

Thing is Kitsquad it'll end it tears as my troops roll into her last city and stomp all over her irrigation.

Or I might play her out the game and just leave her one little city in the corner ha ha! Thats if I can teach her the game at all!

Either way:

I predict a riot.

It's not going to be "I love the boyfriend day" in my house.

I had the same problem, until i decided to get my girlfriend to play civ. She was reluctant at first but after a few go she started to get the hang of it and more importantly started enjoying the game. Complains went from constant to zero, she was even asking me to play MP games with her. Sadly this is where it started to get ugly, because she developed the worst case of one-more-turn-itis i have ever seen. In the end she was playing so often i hardly got a chance to play myself, so she had to go, although i was nice enough to get a copy for her.

Yeah, I can't get my wife into Civ3 because even a small world just takes too long for her. I'm hoping Civ4 will have fast and furious games that don't take longer than a few hours and still be fun. Then I won't have to give her my credit card to go shopping while I play Civ3 anymore. :)

This "get the girlfriend to play" strategy can backfire horribly if you aren't careful. Unless there are two computers available, you may soon find you have in essence lost both the girlfriend and your Civ game - at least for extended periods of time, during which she is likely only to have eyes for Gandhi... :(

If your girlfriend doesn't understand the importance that Civ plays in your life then she isn't worth it. Example, my girlfriend is coming over on the day of release for our first multiplayer game (I have multiple comps). She is also looking into purchasing a new computer so she can play from her place against me whenever she feels like losing:) . And we spent an hour the other night looking at and discussing videos and screenshots together. And yes I know how lucky I am.

So sad, so true.
Welcome to geekdom, which pretty much anybody who posts on this site is.
(I have my geek membership card laminated and in my wallet.)

I would be very curious to know exactly what percentage of the posters on this site are female. I am betting maybe one in 10,000.

It is a rare woman indeed who appreciates the beauty of a game like Civ.
Don't know why, but it just is. They seem to enjoy that Real Life thing more.

Ah, but you're wrong batman. My girlfriend is just as big a geek as me, it's just we aren't geeky about the same things. You just have to find a good one, and then be patient with their geekiness and hope they are patient with yours.

I'm female!
My husband was against my recent graphics card update cos he just knew I'd be civving all the time. I've tried to get him into it but all he wants to do is trample MAs over the French and blast off a load of nukes... sigh

He "has the emotional depth of a teaspoon" when it comes to Civ.
(1,000 points to anyone who guesses where that quote came from!)
