Civ IV v Girlfriend IV

Ok guys, here is what you do:

If your girlfriend winges and complains over and over again that you are spending too much time on civ4 then all she really wants is some attention. Tell her you love her and that nothing matters more to you then doing things you love with her. That set the stage for inviting her to a multiplayer civ game.

If she says yes then you have found a female open to the idea of playing civ on a regular basis for the good of the relationship. Marry her.

If no, then continue by reminding her of all the shopping outings and drives up into the mountains that you took her on. While you are saying this, maintain eye contact with the screen to let her know that you are serious.

If she STILL doesn't understand your need to play civ, then pay no heed. She will probably leave the house, slamming the door and hissing and cursing. Remind yourself that if you played her multiplay you probably would have wone anyway.

Continue playing.

Ah, but you're wrong batman. My girlfriend is just as big a geek as me, it's just we aren't geeky about the same things. You just have to find a good one, and then be patient with their geekiness and hope they are patient with yours.

Very, very wise words.

I think her and me will still fight over playtime, but I am a lucky man, having a gf that likes me and generally shares my obsession for computer games. Lucky me²- we have a very different taste in games so we never end up playing against each other. Because THAT can really cause some grave diplomatic crisis!

I'm so lucky! My new girlfriend loves to play Heroes Might and Magic with me, so I guess it will be possible to introduce her for the CIV world to. Now we have a lot of new cute wild animals in CIV 4 too, think that can be an important trigger for her..... ;)

I think I got lucky myself.

My wife has tried MP and other civ games, but doesn't really have the patience to play as long as I do. She will however join me in the computer room and hang out while I play. She generally does her shopping, watches music videos, or IMs her friends. She does have some patience for my civ binges as long as she, and the house, don't get neglected.

I won't make the mistake of playing all weekend while she cuts the grass, then cleans the house, then cooks dinner. If I spend Saturday with her and helping out, I can generally plant myself in front of the PC and play all day Sunday, and she will either go hang out with friends, or bring me drinks and snacks in between plays (she watches football).

Moderation is the key. An obsession is only a problem when it is not a healthy obsession.

This sounds like a moddability issue. If Girlfriend IV has trouble accepting your civ-playing, try e-mailing Snoopy and asking for a mod.:)

I prefer my girlfriend go to the gym while I'm playing

who needs her sitting on a computer

Good one. I actually use the same trick every Saturday morning. My GF is a sport addict. So whenever it's nice outside, I look at her with a smile and say "Wow, look at the nice weather, perfect for a nice run. You should really go and enjoy it. See you when you come back honey". The moment she's out the door, I boot the PC and start Civing.

It works every time :D

Thing is Kitsquad it'll end it tears as my troops roll into her last city and stomp all over her irrigation.

Or I might play her out the game and just leave her one little city in the corner ha ha! Thats if I can teach her the game at all!

Either way:

I predict a riot.

It's not going to be "I love the boyfriend day" in my house.

Ah, but this is where you get sneaky. Play only games where you are allied together against the computers. Permanent Alliances, that way you can play the knight in shining armor. :king:

"what the germans are attacking u? don't worry baby, i'll take care of u" :king:

Omfg, you can first try and acquire a militairy acces with a movie, then paratroop right next to ehr cities with chocalates and then let things run its course.

PS. I would never chose my girlfriend over a game to be honest, because she does have a resource i need :mischief:

He "has the emotional depth of a teaspoon" when it comes to Civ.
(1,000 points to anyone who guesses where that quote came from!)

Hermione about Ron in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Sadly, this kind of geekery is equally unlikely to win me the points that really count either ;).

If you have a problem deciding which one to spend time with ask two simple questions. Which one complains more? Even better, which will selflessly give its self to you every night for your enjoyment?

Anyone who would seriously take Civ, or any game for that matter, over there social life is an idiot. That is all.

You are probably right. Of course, this is a page called "Civfanatics" not "Civ Enthusiasts" or "Folks that think Civ is a fairly good game." You are dealing with a pretty die-hard group of fans here.

True, but I dobut if Sid said "MINIONS! DESTROY VATICAN CITY!" that they would become suicide bombers and scream "IN THE NAME OF SID! PREPARE TO DIE INFIDELS!" and blow themselfs up. :p

Anyway, just saying that..well..yeah...

lol.i have a social life ...that's not the point... but i just go by the rule do not try to twist my hand in life ;) ... we all have defects and qualities in us so if my girl friend can't take my defects than she is better with someone else.... besides if she decide to leave me for a game so she doesn't really care for me.lol.so am better off without her and am sure in time i will have a new girl friend.easy and simple :D
