Civ IV won't start

for the directx thing there is also the possibility to download the complete package and install it without going through the webinstaller. I'll see if I can find the link there.
I can write a more thorough uninstall routine, though you'd need to tell me what you don't understand...
Note: I will be quite busy until tomorrow night and it is well possible that I forget to post again, if I don't reply until tuesday morning please remind me by posting here :mischief:

xp-english...
o and i know the control panel and add or remove programs thingy if that's what you're thinking.
jst

that makes things a bit easier - so no go ahead and do the following:
open windows explorer (e.g. by clicking on the my computer icon on your desktop).
click on tools
click on folder options
in the options screen that opens click on view
scroll down until you find an entry called
Hidden files and folders
immediately below that click on Show hidden files and folders
click on ok.

then go into the control panel and delete all three games (I forget if you have warlords installed if not just delete the 2 installed ones of course).

Now for the manual deletion of files:
in order to delete
...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4
double click on my computer
double click on local drive (C: )
double click on documents and settings
double click on your username
double click on my documents
double click on my games
right click on sid meier's civilization 4
choose delete in the menu that opens
click on yes when it asks you if you really want to delete the file.

Do the same for all other file paths I listed above, i.e. each item between \ and \ is one thing you need to double click on in order to get to the next level in the file system. I preceeded the first \ with ... as in ...\documents and settings\etc because I don't know how your hard drive is called by default it is Local Drive (C: ) in which case think all iterations of ...\ as Local Drive C:\
if you have any more difficulties ask - I hope I have not made things more confusing

aaaa, tnx that makes things easier
now i get what you ment with (damn i stil don't kow how to spell this word...:mischief:) the directoris.
if i woud focus a little bit more i woud have got it in the first place
anyway tnx for alll you're help

p.s. do you think it woud be wise (when i complete all of you're steps) to go to search option and look for civ4 and then delete all that is left (if any) ?

ok, tnx...
jst two more thingys:
-DX (i can't get it through the net)
-i installed the game for all useres
i suspect that this changes things abaut deleeting stuff... i am right ?

:hmm: there might be some more things in the documents and settings paths but only IF you ever started the game as a different user then the one you regularily use... In that case use the search function and delete all folders with the names I posted above...
You can ignore the DirectX thing if you don't try to use Civ4 or Warlords before installing BtS AND patching it to 3.13 :)

ok, many tnx if the game will work then even beter, but f not i still eprishiate you're work

what if there is no files in those directories ? (install shield, and others ?)
jst

if there really is none the uninstall routine took care of it - it is a tad unpredictable... But with the Installshield folder make sure you are looking at installshield installation information and not installshield alone (there are two installshield folders...). If you cannot find those folders don't worry. and move on :)

ok, tnx !
done it but doesn't work !
i tried on my mom's comp too and same problem...
anyway i will move on, tnx for all the help agin
