I do like the civ music, with the exception of the future music. But particularly when I go to war, I like something a little harsher. So I made a custom folder to turn on when I go to war. The songs are:

Disturbed: 10,000 Fists, Enemy, Violence Fetish, Voices, Get Psycho
Dope: Die Motherfuc*er Die
Insane Clown Posse: My Axe
Murder Dolls: Lets go to War
Nonpoint: Bullet with a Name on it
Papa Roach: Blood Brothers
Prodigy: Breathe, Smack my B*tch Up
Rage Against the Machine: Sleep Now in the Fire, Guerilla Radio
Rammstein: Ich Will, Feuer Frei, etc. (spelling?) (something about the german language goes well with war).
Sepultura: Chaos A.D., The Hunt
Soulfly: Eye for an Eye
Slayer: I Hate You, Raining Blood
Slipknot: Spit it Out
Stone Sour: Get Inside
Edit: I just added "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows" by Leslie Gore... mostly because it makes me laugh to have that ridiculous song on while I pillage and plunder. :mischief:

Yeah, pretty intense and violent for the most part I know. Does anybody else use custom music folders? What songs? I kind of want to put together another folder with some more classical music. Any suggestions? Also, I noticed that the music doesn't automatically change with the eras since I started using my custom war folder and switching back. Anybody know how to fix that?

An excellent choice Tephros.

Personally, I love System of a Down - "War" when I'm in the mood for destroying a civ.... "We will fight the Heathens!"

like your choices.

i hadn't thought about changeing the music when at war, but agree it could be more 'warlike'. i usually have other music on throughout the game and don't really hear the game music.

How do you have custom music?
That's easy, just turn off the ingame music and run Winamp in the background. Use Alt+Tab to switch between the game and Winamp.

Well, you can also do it in-game by going to options and audio. There will be a place for you to browse for a custom audio folder. You'll need to create a folder that only has the songs you'll want to randomly play. In order to get it to play you'll need to unclick and click the little check-mark for the music that is just below where you can adjust the volume for different aspects of audio.... but, like I said, it no longer automatically switches the game music with the eras since I did that...

Cool idea.

I've been thinking of augmenting and/or replacing some of the modern music, much of which is annoying. I don't tend to like a modern pop music soundtrack for Civ, it just doesn't seem to fit, so I thought of adding similar music--pseudo-classical--but better.

So far, I've added Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris, and they suit the modern era in the game very well, I find. Does anyone else have any suggestions along those lines?

I like the idea of different music for war. Holst's Mars, the Bringer of War would kick butt in that regard.

On a related note--I'd love to have the game play different music at the end, once victory is achieved. Usually it's playing one of those sombre modern pieces, which is quite a downer when you've just spent 10-20 hours winning a game. It would be nice to be able to assign a punchier victory theme--say the theme from Rocky or Patton or something.
