Civ Player Nationality

I'm a New Yorker, and since the Yankees aren't a civ (mod anyone?), I guess I've got the Americans, but only with Rosie; he's a New Yawker too.

I already have...

I hate people being pedantic and putting ever inane little part of their ancestry on show whenever something like this comes up.

Just for you...

I have: English, Irish, Scottish, Spanish, Chinese, Aboriginal, South African and Dutch ancestry. Well, there is definitely more, but I don't know it. You are not your ancestry, you are where you are from. I am Australian! I am not English, Irish, Scottish, Spanish, Chinese, Aboriginal, South African and Dutch. If you are born and grew up in America, then you are American. If you grow up somewhere, then that is what and who you are!

As for the stereotyping, I don't care... It's a bit of fun. I meant no offense with the comment about stupid Americans, I just found it funny that you had 10 seconds written for that. As for the Welsh being Barbarians same thing, just a bit of fun. If you want to have a crack at an Australian stereotype, have a go at one. Being from Australia I actually have a sense of humour.

I was born in England, grew up in Scotland and live in Wales which is part of why I consider myself British, not English, Welsh or Scottish. I had a sense of humour but it got bored waiting for you to say something funny and left.

United States - American Civ, though my ancestors are primarily English, German, and Dutch - there's three more Civ's... and then if you consider that many of their ancestors were part of the Roman Empire, you could bring Rome into the mix... and then, of course, Alexander the Great's Mesopotamia occupied so much territory, I'm sure I had ancestors there too...

But... to directly answer the question, the American Civ.

From America, closest nationality would be either German or American depending on how recent (last 125 years or so American). I thought of German first because the Welsh Barbarian comment made me think I was 3/8 Welsh and then I remembered I'm 1/2 German, but otherwise I don't have any connections with Germany so probably American.

Though quite a few people think I'm British, both Americans and non-Americans.

Kind of a complex way to say American, but with Americans it's relatively common to think ancestry-wise on this.

England probably (though my great grandparents lived in the far east for some time, but they were still English). I don't really care about nationality though. To me England is just a place to live. Why should I be proud of something that I didn't choose? Given the choice, I would choose a different nationality to make things more convenient. But I since that is not an option I guess I have to live with it.

This guy knows what he is talking about. It is not what blood you have, it's where you have spent you life.

In case you haven't noticed, the question in the O.T. asked for the civ
that was closest to your "nationality" not where you happened to live.
As a Canadian who's lived half my life in Canada and half in England and
have a parent from each country, how would I describe myself? As mixed
of course. I'm not Cornish just because I live in Cornwall either.
Maybe a few less snide remarks about peoples perceived identity would be
welcome from you. Still, I think the rest of us realise that "Australian" and
"sense of humour" is an oxymoron.

Finnish. I think Russia or Vikings would be closest. Maybe Vikings, since no one of the Russian leaders in Civ IV has actually ruled over Finland. Vikings had some settlements in Finland, as far as I am concerned.

Vikings used to have settlements in Russia too, so I guess you picking the Vikings is a safe bet.

I just want to know what kind of People play Civ4 .And please do tell the what is nearest civ in BTS to your nationality .

I'm Asian , and the nearest civ to mine are the :ninja:Chinese :ninja:

So , what about you guys .

Wo xue Zhongwen! Wo shuo yidian.

That is how I feel too. I am American of European ancestry, but do not give much thought to my European "heritage" because the USA is all I have.

French Canadian (Québecois). My land was colonized by France but conquered by England, so um, France and England.

The phrase "French Canadian" hasn't been in use in Quebec much since the 60s. I suppose it's because a lot of "French Canadians" don't feel French OR Canadian, hehe! But yes, it always seemed odd for me to be called that when I was in the US for instance. But for this survey I went for ethnicity mostly and that is almost 100% French in my family, the rest might have more to do with Sitting Bull or the Celts than with Elizabeth :)

Well, I was thinking more in the terms of "civilization influence".

My father's side of the family are from the Isle Of Man which is heavily Viking influenced. My mother's family are mostly English. I currently live in the East Anglia region of England, home of Boudica of the Celtic Iceni tribe.

I'm Polish and no civ is near enough to Poland in the game. Which is why Poland should be in.

Yeah, I can see why being a Pole you wouldn't want to identify with the Germans or Russians. Try picking someone you don't have an historical grudge against, like Sitting Bull, and just Polish-up the name a bit ("Stan Bullinski"?) :D
