Civ Player Nationality

Well, you could say that I guess. Still the viking culture as such was more or less gone when Sweden as a state begun to appear. Sure I have viking ancentry at some point but if you want you an trace evrything back to africa even. That's why I said closest would be the viking civ and that the state sweden has little to do with vikings as such. I'm probably missing your point since I'm not really sure what you mean by nation-state and nation. :mischief:

@Crowqueen: I know, I lived in Uppsala (or Upsala as it's often spellt now) for almost 4 years. Great town, filled with students and bicycles. :D

The "Out of Africa" theroy is not the only one, there is also the Multiregional Hypothesis. Perhaps we can see the concrete truth in our life time between the two.

U.S. born here.
And I, like many of my U.S. born brothers, am a mutt of Western-European ethnicities.
To answer the question thought, I personally identify with the Celts.

I just want to know what kind of People play Civ4 .And please do tell the what is nearest civ in BTS to your nationality .

I'm Asian , and the nearest civ to mine are the :ninja:Chinese :ninja:

So , what about you guys .

Chinese people aren't allowed to use ninjas as a symbol. Where is the Mao smilie?

I'm American, and the closest civ to me is the American "Empire".

We have an overabundance of appropriate smilies:
:sniper:, :groucho:

It pisses me off when people say they're American. I've been here since 1639, my grandfathers founded the place and you guys try to take all the credit. :p

You've personally been here since 1639? Wow. That explains a lot....

You've been here since 1639? You must be f***ing old.

Yeah, it's really quite silly. My ancestors came over all the way back in the 1920s. Pennsylvania Dutch they called 'em. Now we're just Americans - whereas say, a black person, would be African-American even though their ancestors might have been here for several centuries. I know Mexicans who think the term "Hispanic" is insulting, people with ancestors from all over Asia who think the term "Asian" is insulting - prefering to be "Chinese" or "Korean", and so forth.

Race, ethnicity, even nationality and all that are really strange subjects. Everybody seems to come up with very precise definitions for a very imprecise subject.

I think I'll take the fact that I'm 1/32 Irish and 1/128 Jewish and start indentifying myself as an Irish Jew. (Ok, I just made those fractions up, I really have no idea).

Technically Indian, however, I am a born/raised American. My Indian side only manifests itself through my religion and my random wrongly-pronounced words due to my parent's influence. I don't mind though. I'm guaranteed to be part of a strong economy (relatively), and to be a smart doctor/engineer, like every Indian person ever.

I don't consider myself american, I consider myself hawaiian japanese......:D

I am 1/8 Native American. Blackfoot is the line. The rest comes from mostly Polish decent. Woohoo! Let's start another poland debate forum. BTW, not to lead off topic but if anyone knows of an animated leaderhead for poland, could you post me a link? I havent been here for a while and will probably need to dig through all the new mod stuff.

Huh? Could you please elaborate?

And as for your sig, try this "Show me a young man who's a conservative and I'll show you a man with no heart. Show me an old man who's a liberal, and I'll show you a man with no brain" - Winston Churchill.

How about a young man who's a liberal? :p

I don't see how there's anything to elaborate on. I think its bull that people can come here, F* up the country and then claim to be Americans.

I am from Peru (South America - just in case you wondering where is it  ) I think the nearest civ is Tawantinsuyu (Incan) but, that was one of many other civs around here, even tho they were the ones who conquered the others and the ones who fight against colonizers from europe (spain).

But most of actual cities from Peru are not named on Civ4 because those cities were found by spanish ppl. And the culture here is basically hybrid between spanish/incan but the rate mostly depend of the city. Like most of Peruvians my ancestry is mixed, some spanish, incan, and many other europe ancestry here and there. I live at Lima the capital of Peru and this city is just like another big city (around 28~ population i think :p ) and i would say a rate of 80% spanish 20% incan while there are other cities as Cuzco, where the rate would be 70% incan 30% spanish (12~ population), that is a really beautiful city and as most of you know MachuPicchu is located near there. And it make me wonder when will firaxis going to add MachuPicchu as an official Civ4 Wonder. :(

My white ancestors have been here since that time as well. My Cherokee ancestors, for much longer. My black ancestors, I'm not sure about, but at a guess, probably about as long as my white ancestors.

So I'm in a good position to say this: Lighten up, dude.

I've forgotten who that quote, or the real one which is only somewhat similar, is from, but it wasn't Churchill. I think it may have been Disraeli, but I could be wrong. At any rate, whoever it was was asked about his son, who was a Communist. He replied: "If he weren't a Communist by the time he was 20, I would worry about his heart. If he's still one by the time he's 30, I'll worry about his head."

Well, according to the remark a young man who is a liberal is exactly the way it's supposed to be.

Thank you for elaborating, now that I'm aware that you're a crank I'm glad I didn't waste my time by responding further.

Oh, and the remark as quoted is from Churchill (one of his memoirs; I don't remember which one, but I used it in a paper in college), but I wouldn't be surprised if he paraphrased it from someone else and if it's been paraphrased since (it's quite good).

Thank you for not responding further. :)
