I have only played civalization a couple of times, however I am wondering if it is possibe to force your civ to split. Like the AI civs do after it sys something like, after a cival war the the civ of the germans has split into the rebal aztecs and loyal germans. Is this possible to do by yourself, force you civ to spilt? Just to see what would happen if any thing at all. I am curious, has this ever happened to any one?

I never had my capital captured in Civ, but I don't think your civ can be splitted. It would be too hard a blow to get half of your empire taken away!
Even in civ 2, where you can move your palace if you have got enough money to avoid your civ becoming "headless", I have never experienced a split of my own civilization.

I've seen it happen many times, usually when I am the agitator!

It will only suually happen to those civs who have previously conquered others. Eg. The Romans destroy the Babs, and when you take Rome, it splits into Bab and Roman factions, bringing the Babs back from the death

VERY useful if stuck in a sticky situation!

I don't see why you couldn't get split like the AI does..Maybe, no probably the size of your empire before you get split would vary with the difficulty..

My capital fell once very early in the game when I had about 5 or 6 cities. My civilization was not split. However until that point no other civilization had been destroyed yet. So maybe it could happen when another civ had already been destroyed or my civ would have been somewhat bigger.

Hi All,
I'm new to this old but very addicting game. Just won on Prince level without cheats and now feel confident to try emperor level. My MO is to wipe everyone out except for one enemy and save them as a trading partner. Curious if this will work at emperor level.

Anyway, I poked around in the Mac Civilization file using Resedit and came across this message:

The $US empire is swept by Civil War triggered by the fall of their capital! When the dust settles the empire has been split into loyal ($US) and rebel ($THEM) factions.

So it looks like the AI can split a civilization but don't know if it can happen to regular player. Maybe only to selected civilization that have a "history" of civil war. Romans, Americans, etc.

Anyway, this forum is great!

It can happen to anyone (except you) who has their capital captured by a civ with less cities. The civ who takes the other half of their empire can be any eliminated civ.

I think one way to split your own civ would be to change the human civ temporarily by editing a saved game file (although there are some weird effects the change seems quite stable) and then use a smaller civ to split your previous civ.

Maybe if a civ smaller than u captures your capital AND if u have already destroyed a civ (or 2 or 3 or 4 or...) then u might get split.....hopefully......

it would make the game a bit more interesting (for addicts who have been playing for a long time anyway!)
