Civ V Out of Virtual Memory but % RAM Used Remains Low

Seriously this is very frustrating. I am playing on a large map and the game runs out of virtual memory and eventually crashes. It's BS because I have 16 Gb of RAM and Dr. Cleaner shows a low amount of RAM actually being used by the game. How can I fix this? Is there an ini/config tweak I can make for this game? I have a very high end iMAC (one of the best you can buy right now). Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately, those 16GB won't help as the game can't access more than 4GB, being a 32 bit application.

You could try playing on Standard size maps. That should probably reduce memory usage.

Thanks for this info. Now, it makes sense. Wish they wouldn't have programmed it 32 bit, but it seems that my only fix is to cut back on the number of mods. This seems to prevent the error. Thanks again.
