Civ V

Yeah, that's about how it works. But seriously, Lua is a remarkably simple (yet powerful) language which one could learn in a day (being good at is, of course, a different matter).

You forgot the primary reason Lua is in, it is way faster than Python

I stated "alpha". Which doesn't mean "beta". It could be just the map with spawn dates and auto-play.
If anybody remembers Catapult alphas, that's what I'm talking about.
Speaking of maps, I'm curious what would you do if CivV does not allow maps large enough to make an Earth map suitable for 1ups and ranged combat?

I gather it would have to be twice the size to make features like the English Channel (not to mention Britain itself) playable (so that the English would not pelt the French with arrows without even leaving the island).

Would you go for something like Rhye's and Fall: Europe, then?

Instead of getting Civ5 we should get 2k to cough up the source code to Civ4 and create a Civ4 .exe for 64 bit and a 32 bit multi-threaded version. Then create a huge version of the RFC map. (Hell if we had the source code someone with enough experience could create a new graphics engine.)

IIRC Civ V will allow essentially unlimited sized maps because of how the engine is code (provided you have enough GPU and CPU to run it)

it would be enough to deny ranged combat between land units in two different landmasses

I never said that.
I gave no guarantees, but my intention is to make it, when it's possible for me to work on it. Considering I also ahve to learn Lua, and that there isn't Spain yet, I hope that Christmas time will be an appropriate time for an alpha release.

I suddenly feel as happy as Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber when he says "You mean there's a chance!" Woo!

I suppose bringing stacking back would require extensive unit revamping (bringing back the whole rock-paper-scissors unit types, transports, etc.), too.

Idk where the money is in this for you Rhye, but had i been the boss of CiV (outside of my own little laptop of course.. :D) Then Rhye would have his own DLC for CiV.
A lot of whiners are going on about how crap the new CiV 5 is (having only had the time to play 3 hours i can't say much), but i do know it's pretty damn good for a vanilla and has some really cool new features.
What i However cannot stand is a DLC that costs 5 bucks to get babylon. That has to be the most arrogant move i've ever seen. If there is any sense of profit in these people they will boost a RFC economically and charge for it.. i'd be more than happy to pay for that.

But no RFC would end my CiV permanently within at least 3 months.. If i knew one would never come i'd see no reason to play CiV.. Without UHV, starting locations and all that magnificent crap Civ is a pretty silly game.. Never could take egypt and and Montezuma rivaling for each others cities very seriously..

The worst blow DLC could deal would be to make it mandatory to play every mod that uses it.

Rhye would either have to omit all DLC features or require us all to have each of them. Because I can't imagine he's willing to create a "RFC with Babylon" and "RFC without Babylon" version. And it gets worse when Spain, Carthage, Maya (...) also become available as DLC.

I think it's wise we wait a bit... at least till the first expansion or DLC pack combo. Let them Vanilla's work out the bugs. We can still speculate on the game mechanics though. All those Civs that didn't get a proper Civs would make a great City-States ( i.e. Seoul, Jerusalem, etc.. ).

Perhaps it would be possible to simply include handmade civs like Babylon with placeholder leaders and units and then make the mod replace them with DLC components when available? Having Varietas Delectat in mind, I doubt there are graphics the community cannot match themselves.

You make it sound so easy. If there were a magic switch to make Civ4 multithreaded, I am pretty sure Firaxis would have done it already. Making a multithreaded application is already a high level challenge, converting an existing app even more so.

I know that I'm simply stating that with the source code it would be very possible. Also Civfanatics is a community of over like 100,000 people with real game designers not to mention the talented modders so I'm sure someone has the expertise to create said .exe.

I've been playing CiV5 for a good bit, is here's my idea:

We add Spain in, hahaha.

Ducth and Portuguese are repped by a city state. We maybe able to code in city states creating colonies. On an Earth map, Portugal and Amesterdam would be the perfect size. Mongol could have encampments north of China and then around Russia and Persia.

We could also create a horse archer unit, so the mongol invasion is more accurate. nEthiopia could be made a city state: Aksum.

I've thought of it, and the more minor civs could really be city states. The Iroquios could also occupy an area that is often empty. The hexagons makes a much better Earth map.

I'd vote on Krakow but that's details. :)

Actually if the world map was 500 tiles wide you could have both
