I never have met any demands and don’t notice any repercussions

The AI asks for a negligible amount of gpt and it makes no difference if you pay or refuse. Often the AI will make demands when they are in no position to attack.

Make it so the AI stacks forces on the border and will DOW you if you don't pay 50+ gpt. Then you have to assess whether you want to pay danegeld or definitely get into a war.
