Civ++

Ok, I finally isolated the MiG Problem. Sorry about that. Try the new version and let me know if it is still wrong.

Also, I added another download site, for those having trouble with Gameflood. Finally, I added an upload on CivFanatics that includes all the files EXCEPT the units, so if there is a newer version that does not say you need the units, then you can download this.

Still not working properly but have to admit I'm not sure if this is the right version I'm finding at both of the links you've provided. Both show the most recent file modified at 02:34AM 08/19/07. Is that correct?

If this latest fix is just a couple of text files being edited could you provide a mini patch link as well? Kind of annoying to download 33M for what must be something like a dinky 5K updated file.

Yeah, I'm trying to set up a system so that you can download a 6MB file instead of 33.

Try downloading the new one, which should say 1:39 PM (or later) on August 19 and let me know if it doesn't work.

What should be the time stamp of the most recently modified file in the Zip?

The timestamp should be between 1:39PM and 2:00PM from Gameflood. I just downloaded my new uploaded file and it worked fine, MiGs and everything. Thanks for the help and let me know if this is still and issue.

All is fine now. I'm thinking I caused my own problems by simply dumping all of your updates on top of one another in the Civ++ directory as opposed to deleting the Civ++ directory and dropping the new versions in all fresh.

Maybe this is what is behind my Greek Fire upgrade problems as well (mingling old and new builds together)?

Maybe, but it's great it finally works. From now on I expect there to be only XML changes, and I'll post those in small files on CivFanatics.

I like the concept of the religious victory BUT am afraid as it stands now the AI probably has no idea how to prevent it. What I think might be interesting, although no clue how it could be implemented is some sort of "Passive Inquisition". So not an inquisitor unit since I doubt the AI would really know how to use it, but something where the cities' culture influences (even better if there is a way to quantify the culture generated by the state religion buildings) the chance non-state religions are purged from the cities randomly.

No clue how feasible this really is but as it stands there is no defense to a somebody attempting a religious victory.

Actually, how does the religious victory currently work? I get its if my state religion is in over 60% of the world...but what happens if I just convert over to the religion some AI has actively spread before me? If I own the Holy City I win of this leading religion?

You win with 60% of the world in your state religion AND you own the Holy City. I have found this a pretty hard task in itself, so I'm not really concerned about the AI stopping the player. It would be practically impossible if you had something like a Passive Inquisition (besides all the python I would have to do). The 60% SOUNDS easy, but once you start trying to do it, it's alot harder then it sounds.

Just wanted to say "thanks" for this krowtrobot, downloading it now, it looks like a lot of hard work! :)

No time to play it at present but I will write up when I next have a chance.

:goodjob:

Okay, I hope so. I really like the idea of this victory type but I only hope the AI knows how to combat it.

Here's a totally unrelated note but am wondering how you mod handles the some issues folk are having in the real BtS' Modern Naval stuff.

a) Destroyers can see Submarines and defend Transports (this is good).
b) Destroyers are obsoleted by Stealth Destroyers (sounds reasonable).
c) Stealth Destroyers can't see Submarines and will not defend Transports (this seems WRONG).

One real simple solution is simply to NOT have the original Destroyers go obsolete when the Stealth Destroyers hit the scene. If I get this right, Battleships also become obsoleted by technically lesser ships as well.

BUT, I know you've added some more Naval Units so maybe you've already indirectly handled these gaps in the evolution of ships?

Intriguing. I think I have a solution to this quandary. Give me a little while and I will post a new version with some changes.

Go for it! Seeing what you've done so far with your mod by always keeping a sense of balance in high regard, I'm sure you can come up with some simple/elegant solution.

I posted a new version earlier today, with alot of small changes here and there, especially in the Future age to help flesh it out a little more. I added a Laser Destroyer unit, available at Laser, with a Str of 38 and the ability to hunt subs, which is a second upgrade option for Destroyers. Unfortunately you'll have to download the whole package :( , but with all the changes, hopefully it is worthwhile. I hope to come out with another iteration in the future, but am trying to space them further apart now, with more meaningful changes.

Hey Krowtrobot!

How does your mod handle the Future Era vs. Space Victory?

For example, in Next War one really needs to disable the Space Victory if you ever want a chance to see the future era techs. Is this also the case here or have you somehow balanced this by bringing in these future techs before the completion of the Space Race?

I put some of the Space Race stuff in the Future Era, so that you are forced to get into the 1st Tier of the Future to even start building some of the things needed. I may move more but I felt this was a good compromise.

Superb mod... i like the civics that you add, i like the changes of religions to make them different and specially the fact that even if have started with misticysm you have to research polytheism and then prieshood to foun your first religion so another civs, maybe have a chance to found one religion ...
I notice, that religion spread is faster than normal civ.. i think its cool...
Superb the job that you did with the traits.. but i think that should be a diference between the leaders...

I mean Stalin didnt the same things that peter did...
but should be small bonuses... i think...
The only thing i want to complain is about the lack of documentacion about the changes that you made to your mod..
I tried a lot of mod but this one is the most entertaining for me..
Great job with units!!!

I want to download this Mod...But the download links are confusing, and the main download link doesn't show whether I am downloading 1.06 or not...

Can you please make this clearer?

Yeah, will gameflood at least allow you to change the file date listed so we know BEFORE downloading the 33M file if this is the one we just saw you post something about?
