civ1 GOTM?

Just played my first try at the GOTM. Went for maths to get catapult, declared war on the Zulus.... and then they just walked into my city! Although I had a Rifleman in it.. it was like it was unfortified. :crap:

Probably a glitch from Terraform :(

Did you try movin it out and in of the city, that usually fixes it. Build a militia or a phalanx first though.

*shrugs* I dunno.

But it's not like I would have an advantage in my second go because A) we have seen the map before hand and B) I failed because of a glitch.

But if rules-are-rules then I probably failed it :(

Typically you get one shot at a GOTM.

But since there are about four? of us, I'd be willing to say try it a couple times. Why not?

GOTM = Game Of The Month

...but - what's the GOAL?

...spacerace / 'alpha centauri' ?
...conquer the world?
...highest score 'til 1500 AD?

so ... what?

...should we discuss that
or are there rules (somewhere)?

by the way:
i have a Terraform-edited
EARTH(-like) scenario
'in work',
that seems to run great.

(i am / you are)
the english
start on their island (slightly bigger)
EMPEREOR LEVEL

... it's getting harder & harder,
all civs develop until 1540 AD (maybe ~10 hours of play)
and even i did play the 'all visible' (shift-56) version xxx.01 cheat
i wasn't able to see that 2 other AI tribes would do that fast, THAT good -
those tribes 'now' (1540 AD) have nuclear warfare
and i am with musketeers and ironclads... *waiting for the bomb to fall*

if there is interest in the start file(s) of this scenario as GOTM
please let me know.

it's really thrilling.

.
.

attached game:

'you are' the English
at EARTH-like
in 1540 AD
EMPEREOR
scenario:

rename both files of this game

Civil0.sav into Civil0.sve
and
Civil0.txt into Civil0.map

and put them into your CiV. 1 . DOS folder to play.

In other gotms scores are calculated using some sort of equaliser for different VC´s. This is rather difficult to establish. My suggestion is to roll a random start and chose 1 specific VC for score comparison.

That way anyone can join as nobody knows the map, en if we all go for the same VC scores should be comparable.

Any VC will do for me conquest, space or score on a given date.
Would prefer to down level to king as I haven´t played this in a long time.

see TerraForm bugs

This thread is just the sort of shake down TerraForm needs. If anyone is going to use TerraForm to create games please remember that it is a work in progress. The more that it is used in ways that I had not foreseen the quicker it will become a more reliable program. There are all sorts of bits and flag words in the sve file that I don't know the function of. Only if you, its users give me feedback in the form of descriptions of anomalies and the map & sve files that caused them will TerraForm mature.

Thanks to trada and Tenochtitlan for identifying these bugs.

09Dec05 TerraForm version 1.0.29

I don't think we should lower the difficulty level. Although I am going to find the present one very difficult to even survive I think that there are more who need it to be on Emp. rather then King because they find King to easy.

what 'present' Gotm are you talking about?
is here a secret chamber at forums or what?

IF there is a present 'GOTM' for civ.dos running somewhere please point a link to that, d*mn. :crazyeye:

yeah - ive gotten a little confused as to what GOTM has been selected.

@goldberg: VC = victory condition

Try this for GOTM :D (Windows version only)

The whole thing, that you can meet with king using a diplomat and make peace with civs! :)

This is all a muddle. Somebody should be appointed to take charge of the civ1 GOTM situation and he/she has the authority on what actually *is* the GOTM and how it should run.

I believe someone from this list:

Tenochtitlan
GoldBerg
Dack
IC

should do it. If you are one of those ones then feel free to take charge right now.

1. we need a GOTM (Game of the Month) RULES thread.
i never did play Civ.2>4 - in never been in the Civ2>4 forums (why should i?)
and i think it's in need to modify the rules for Civ.1.DOS...(just ask)?

2. it should be a Civ.1.DOS GOTM and nothing else
(NO 'civ for win', 'winciv', 'civnet', 'civnintendo', 'civpalmtop', 'cifwh**th*f***ever')

3. i suggest
a Civ.1.DOS GOTM GAME-release thread
so people can release their scenarios for Gotm,
people may play and vote for the scenario -
or
if they already played the game (after DL'ing)
they may post the results of that game

in a

4. Civ.1.DOS GOTM RESULTS thread
just for result listings

and discuss the game(s) in the

5. Civ.1.DOS GOTM DiSCUSSiON Thread

Hear hear!

Just who will create such monsters though. Not I.

I'm working on a very interesting and challenging scenario. I just have a few bugs to fix.

Too bad my civ$ doesn't work :(

What do you think about Challenge GOTM? :D
...
sorry - but i really doubt
a CiV.EXE modification should be
a realistic "option" for a GOTM...

please - be SERiOUS.
