civ1 GOTM?

I can't seen to get it working. When I load the game it's all glitched up and such :( Do you need a certain version to play?

i hope this one works with 474.03 (many users have the 474.03 version) too...

GoldBerg, don't get so defensive. I posted before you released your level. And from what I hear you did a very good job. Since you already released it and wanted it to be GOTM for December 2005, I see no reason to appoint it GOTM 12/2005! For the future, though, it should be okay for just a random civ1 start map to be used. Play through to the end and if it was a really good one and you want to know how other people would do on the same scenario, share it. If it wasn't good, delete and start over.

My complaint about editors is not people using them to create good maps, it is people using them to alter the game rules (benefits gained from this, cost in shields of that, defense rating of riflemen, etc).

I thank Goldberg for his time making his scenarios. *claps* Good job dude :)

Yes. His latest is the GOTM of December 05. But from then on I, agreeing with Alex here, think that it should be the randomly generated levels.

i just want announce that the GOTM is PRiNCE LEVEL
and that there are NEW files

since ~24hrs
for this at:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3447655&postcount=3

correction for PRiNCE level:
London and Moscow are now 'able' to build seafare units (=ships).

EMPEREOR level is removed to prevent any confusion.

I'll have to try the GOTM (Prince) when I'm on vacation next week. Right now I'm only at Prince level, having reinstalled Civ not long ago. I'm playing a random level and those blasted Greeks keep pulling sneak attacks on my ships and not only sinking them but taking a couple land units down each time!

I had 9 units down once  with a transport (no sneak)

Retire load is what I did:mischief:

Sorry, didn't get to play. I was on my first Christmas since getting married, so my wife wouldn't let me. And right now, I'm more worried about surviving the regular games. Yours sounds good, but I'd rather play an easy game until I remember how to win.

How did this GOTM business work out? Did anyone play it? Did anybody collect the results? And when is the next GOTM going to be released?

Oh well, this thread is very confusing, so I assume the GOTM didn’t work. That’s a shame really, since I see quite a few people here are interested in playing civ1 GOTMs. This idea needs to be organized better.

Let’s elect a great Leader to unite the quarreling tribes, to harness the power of this forum and to build a legacy that would stand the test of time:
A CIV1 GOTM!

:king:

I posted my results in the GoldBerg's thread.

i ( but who am i? ;) ) would suggest
that this thread
is for select/vote a game/scenario from another,
[irony]from the overwhelming number of games people did upload and suggest[/irony]
and
that thread were the voted game is posted to download is the Game Of The Month (GOTM) - thread?

...so it's the 'GOTM' thread for that period of time (until that point of time when 'we' all vote another game).

well - we have had christmas period
(should be a period of time of the year
were people have time
but i didn't saw much moves those days
here at civ.1.dos forum)

and
(nearly) nobody did play the game or post his results.

so i would suggest
every 'GOTM' here at civ.1.dos should last a quarter of year
TO GET SOME RESULTS HERE at Civ.1.DOS? ;)

I think Goldberg said something right. Our GOTM is really going to have to be Game of the Quarter or Game of the Season. Goldberg had the Game of Winter 2005. We need to play it. I'm as bad as everyone else...having lots of work and no time to play games. The next game would be Game of Spring 2006 (Spring is March or April -June, I think).

We are a small community. Don't get discouraged too quickly.

I think this is one of the biggest problems here. Nobody has any authority, so nobody can make any formal decisions, and then everything gets very confusing. I believe we need a GOTM staff or maybe just one GOTM President. The GOTM staff should organize the elections of which game should be the official GOTM and stuff like that. I think we will get things done much more efficiently that way than with the current anarchy system.

I suggest that we make one poster responsible for the overall organizing of the GOTM system, but rotate the responsibility of organizing each GOTM between everybody who is interested. The poster with the overall responsibility makes the list over who is responsible for the next GOTMs, and then the poster of the month should start the appropriate threads, decide the rules, create and post the GOTM save game and collect and publish the results.

Does anybody agree?

I agree with this suggestion. Once a month is probably too ambitious.

We have a beautiful little anarchy here, why ruin it and appoint a president?

In the 97 posts to this thread we are still unable to get it moving in a positive direction.
Go to the forum: Civ2 - Game of the Month

Go down to the last page (page 10)
Read some number of the oldest threads at the bottom of the page.
Welcome to the Game of the Month forum!

What we don't have is a CFC MODERATOR that's interested.

Our very own moderator Matrix
staff_moderator.gif
seems to have been instrumental in getting the GOTM going.
In my opinion what those of you that have interest in this must do.
1) Express your wishes to Thunderfall
staff_admin.gif

Matrix and any other moderator that you think might be interested.
2) Make known what the title of the new forum should be (for example CIV Dos Game of the Month or CIVILIZATION DOS "Build An Empire To Stand The Test Of Time" Game of the Month ) . So that there will be no confusion about what version the GOTM is for

Without an official moderator this is only going to founder.
Also if you have interest you will have to play every game as our group is so small that without everyone's participation this will fail if it hasn't already.

So if you have read this and are interested then now is the time to compose that PM or E-mail.

Because anarchy sucks! But obviously we don’t need to appoint a president. We could try to form a monarchy instead for example. Anybody here with royal blood in their veins? Or some nobility maybe?

I suspect that a civ1 GOTM forum will not be extremely active. Actually I don’t think we really need a whole forum yet, but it would be nice to get a moderator on our side.

As a new desperate attempt to give hope to our GOTM future I sent this PM to Matrix:
Hi!
There is a discussion in the civ1 forum about creating a civ1 dos game of the month, but we have some problems getting it organized. A rumor says that you are a master in that field, so I hoped maybe you could help us? Please visit this thread: civ1 GOTM? and give us some advise. I think your expertise could make this great idea about a civ1 GOTM come true :worship:

Dack, since when do we not have an official moderator?

It is more convenient that there'd be one organiser (GoldBerg?), as long as you don't let him/her do all the work. Then again, what's there to work?

I suggest to post a new thread for one specific GOTM and post a savegame there and state a deadline (like one month further :mischief: ). Others can post their scores in the same thread, preferably with a savegame before the last turn.

Meanwhile you can continue to use this thread to discuss the setting of the next GOTM. And/Or you can just rotate the function of GOTM starter.

Just my
2cents.gif
to help you get going. Good luck! :)
