I have a question regarding the Extended Original Game. When starting a new Extended Original Game, what files/folders does it use resources from? Meaning for example does it pull terrain 1 and 2 from the original game? It looks like it uses its own rules and unit files, but does it pull terrain 1 & 2 from the original? My Extended game folder is pretty barren so it's got to pull from somewhere.

I don't really know the technical aspects of these games (I'm computer illiterate that way). But you have the choice of whether starting on Earth and the game progresses as normal, with your ultimate goal being to get to Alpha Centauri.

Or you can start on Alpha Centauri and go in the opposite direction. You've got the whole planet to yourself, and the only enemies you meet are the ones spawned by the huts or whatever other Barbarians come along. So you can explore and build without fear of war until certain technology is discovered in the modern age. At that point, there are units that can access both maps.

You will get the benefit of some of the Wonders, though. I'm blanking on which of the lets you gain tech if two others have gained it and you don't have it (Leonardo's Workshop?) - even if you're not on the same planet and you haven't ever met them. So go for the Wonders that give you tech advantages - you'll need them.

Thanks but was looking for more info in regards to what files from the original game folder the extended original game uses. What I have figured out so far since my extended game folder doesn’t have much in it is that it uses terrain 1&2 from original folder, uses rules and units from extended original, terrain 3&4 from ext original (I believe these serve as the terrain for alpha centaur). Trying to figure it out so I can mod my extended game files and not screw up my original game files

It's been a long time since I last played ToT, but as I recall, the Earth terrain tiles weren't the same as in the regular game. I'm not sure if the red terrain tiles on Alpha Centauri were the same as the red ones used in the Underground map level of the Midgard scenario. Sorry, it's just been too many years, and the game won't play on my current computer.

Ok thanks. I’m still playing around with terrains trying to figure it out.

Is there a way to make units specific to a certain map? For example for the game I’m messing around with Alpha Centauri is converted to the moon. Trying to figure out how to make units that can only be built on the moon map and units on earth map can’t go to moon map

The only moon map I know of in ToT is Naumachia, in the Lalande scenario. It's not part of either Midgard or Original Extended. Is that the one you mean?

Might be, I just got a copy of friends tot game from his pc on an external drive I’m using while I’m out in the field and I started making changes to the game files to suit my personal liking and was curious if there is a way to make units that can only be built/used on the specific maps. Seeing a stealth fighter on the moon doesn’t cut it for me.

Read something about a flag to change on units to not allow use of teleporters but can’t find that post again yet. Which then led me to think if it was possible to make units that can only be built on and used on say the moon planet.

If you don't allow Kineticores on Naumachia, you will A. take forever exploring it; and B. there are some nasty aliens who are extremely homicidal, and turn up once a certain alien tech is discovered. Kineticores are the primary units that are useful for both attack and defense on all 4 maps (and their teleportation ability is critical), until you get close to endgame on Nona (thoroughly explore each bit of terrain there before building any cities; if you build on the same "land" mass as these things, you will either have to kill it NOW or prepare to lose your city. There are ways to kill it, but they require stocking up on certain units to attack it all in the same turn... and btw, once you kill it, the game is over.

Yes extended uses the original game files however I suspect that if you were to put new terrain files in the extended folder the scenario would prioritise using them instead. As that's the way its always been eg think back to old Civ2 scenarios that also sat in their own subfolder and had no terrain files cause they just used Civ2's, but if you added new custom terrain files to that scenario in its folder then the next time you loaded it the new terrain would appear. No different here. If you're going to make your own scenario based on extended then you'd be better off making a new scenario folder, copying everything from extended into it and then changing and adding all the things you want to.

I'm not home right now and it's been a while since I looked so I can't give you the full details but if you load your rules file for your custom scenario and scroll into not the first but the second units area (I think it's called @ UNITS2 or something) you'll see a whole lot of additional unit settings added by test of time and there are ones that prevent units from travelling between and appearing on different worlds I think. There are descriptions at the start of the section that will tell you what is what.

An extended game scenario with the moon sounds cool so I hope you share your work here when you get further on it! :)

Thanks, that is what I was looking for. Guess it’s just going to be a lot of trial and error testing with very limited play time.

Having issues I can’t seem to fix. Extended original game is where I’m playing. I basically copied terrain 1&2 from regular game folder, changed terrain images and renamed them to terrain 3&4. Copied my overlays from original rules and added @overlays1. So now when I start the game the earth map works as intended but when I switch to Alpha Centauri map the terrains are all jacked and showing terrains from earth and alpha terrain files and seeing a lot of bright green lines.

Tried putting terrain 3&4 into original game folder and same result. Anyone have any idea what I’m missing or should check? Thanks

Found the issue and answered many of my own questions after searching multiple times. Thanks

This usually comes with an issue with Terrain2 (/Terrain4, 6, 8 depending on the map you're on)

Per exemple, rivers and shores placed at the wrong place (should be right at the bottom after the last defined layer)

Great.
Don't hesitate to post screenshots of your problem when graphical issues are involved. This could help a lot ;) .
