Hi all!

Well, I want to tell you about Civ2 PBEM utility and its units support. You can download it here:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=41050

The point is that I want to do a 3.0 version that includes two new features:

* Better password system: Reuse the Civ2's passwords, so you don't need to set one password for your civ in the PBEM and one password your civ in the utlity

* Allowing unit exchange (I'm not sure about it, but many people have asked for it)

But, I have a BIG doubt. How can I implement unit exchange without allowing cheats? I mean, if I implement the standard civ2 'give unit' system, the unit that one civ gives to other will apear in the other's capital, and this is like teletransport!

For example: it's colonies and you want to transport units from America to London, so you tell French (your ally) to accept some units and give them back to you the next turn. Voila! The units appear in London only after one turn!

Any ideas?

Do you want unit support?

I would love any kind of feedback

Can you not make them appear right outside the city/airbase they were originally in?

Units do NOT move to the civ's capital, they 'teleport' to the closest city from where it was send. (making stupid things happen like ships being send to a landlocked city ;) )

IMO, people should at least play by some house-rules where trans-continental unit gifting isn't alowed, for the very reason Yaroslav has pointed out.

Another factor that should be considered is the fact that gifted units become NON-units. VERY profitable between allies!
For example: I build a unit, my ally does the same --> swap units: both of us got a nice NON-unit.

Obligatory Rehoming of gifted units (as is in the 'Iron Curtain' scenario) should be another house-rule IMO.

At last but not least: while one can argue that unit gifting in a 'modern age' scenario is feasable (airlift), gifting ships or airplanes still are out of the deal, as in Civ2 itself when you use the airlift option.

If you want to support somebody militairily, just send your own troops over :p

All these combined, I make the point that unit gifting should not be allowed, period. But I know I stand rather alone in this matter (but certainly not completely ;) )

Do as you feel best Yaroslav: unit gifting IS possible in a regular game (although it has its (AI) limitations, so I do not principally disagree if your beautifull utility can do the same. I hust hope that I convince my fellow players not to use the option :goodjob: .

Thank you for your support. I have some respect as people using units exchange to cheat, or scen where it is not historical (for example, before the XIX century), but people is demmanding from me that and I can't say 'no, I'm not going to do this'

Here is my proposal:

1) You can give a unit that is on a square
2) You can give ALL the unit that are on the same square (to give a stack and not only a unit)
3) You can give all the units that are in a city when you give the city...

What do you think?

Just a thought... FMK's suggestion (on apolyton) about having the receiver specify a home city would provide a way to enforce the general rule that gifted units should be rehomed. You could force the receiver to specify a city to support the unit unless it was originally a none unit.

God idea, but I don't know whether it's complex of implementing or not - I will try.

Anyway, thank you for the idea :D
