I had a copy of Civ3 Gold installed on my machine and it started and ran without any noticable delay... but when I removed it and installed Civ3 Complete it takes FOREVER to start the game.
Forever in this case is easily more than 2-3 minutes. The initial Civilization 3 Banner comes up in the middle of the screen and then it sits there... FOREVER (see above forever definition).
Once the game actually kicks off (Atari and other logos appear) it runs great.
Doing a Ctrl-Alt-Del, and looking at the system info... the CPU is pegged at 100% this entire time. Few if any other applications are running (I'm very careful to keep the system clean).
I've got WinXP Pro, 2.5GHz P4, 1Gig RAM, DirectX9.0c, GeForce 5700FX Ultra (128MB) and generally can figure out what my PC is up to, but this thing is just crazy.
Is this just a feature?
Any hints?
