Could you provide a screenshot of the error? Also, did you make sure to back up your terrain files before you wrote over them?

This is in the wrong forum btw. This is for completed modpacks.

Terrain mods go in the art/terrain folder. The key is what versikon of civ. If you want it to be used by Conquest and it is terrain that is only for conquest, it need to go into the Conquest arts folder.

If it is basic and you want it for all three versions, it needs to go in the vanilla arts folder.

So you may have put it in the vanilla arts and it is for conquest. Note that you do not want to put into Scenario folders, which have their own art folders.

If Win7, make sure yo do not have seperate installs for x86 and User folders. Search nameofmod.pcx and see what comes up.

ah sorry... point me to the right thread and i will move my questions... i know how annoying it is when the threads get messed up... and... thanks for the reminder about backing up original files doh... so when i went in to do that it wouldnt work as it still wont run without the cd in the drive... i prob need to sort that first... (so will take screen shot when i work out how to sort that bit out!!)

You should not need a Cd to backup your terrain files. If you didn't already you probably wrote over them. You may need to reinstall civ. Be very careful modding your game.

yeah not sure what to do... i have loaded all 3 cd's for civ3 complete but it wont let me play without the first cd in the drive... and i think thats why i cant find my game saves or the art files when i look on my hard drive... does that make sense?

Not really. It is not an error that it won't let you play without the CD. What OS are you using?

Lets see, if we can get a clear understanding of what is going on. When you say the first CD are you refering to one that says Civilization III? Is the version you are trying to lay Conquest (c3c)?

Do you go to the start menu and find the icon for the games shortcut? If so right click and check properties and see what file it points to. If it points to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Civ3Conquests.exe", then it is Conquest.

It shoudl only ask for the conquest CD, not the vanilla III CD. If it points to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Civilization3.exe" this (may be a different folder) then it is trying to start vanilla and wants the vanilla CD.

This will also tell you where you are installed. Saves for C3C will be in the same folder with saves appended. If you installed as admin and run as admin. If you installed as admin, but run without admin the saves will go to a USER folder.

One of three subfolders will lead to the saves, usually appdata.

its windows 7... but why cant i find the saved games on my comp?

Saves should be in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Saves" for Conquest. If you run as admin, they go in this location.

If you run without admin, they go in USER. USER appdat and then either local or roaming. Drill down to Microsoft, then Windows and finally get to Start Programs iirc.

Easiest way is use the search function with *.sav. Not sure if hidden files is a factor, I think not, but I also have that enable so it is not an issue for me.

You may be getting fooled by the "compatibility" win7 inserts into the folder. The .sav(s) don't appear unless you click on the word. Somehow it doesn't strike me as useful to hide files within the folder they are stored....
