I recently found that many people at my school play Civ, but unfortunately, they play Civ4. Some have played Civ3, but all of them now play Civ4 because of it's 'better graphics'. So that made me wonder: How many people do you know that still play the best Civ game of them all. (Civ3, if you couldn't guess:rolleyes:)

Most of the players I know dropped civ4 and went back to 3. I do play a game of IV form time to time, after I spent money on all those expansions too.

You have great friends then, then again, I'm a freshman in high school, and everybody always goes for better graphics.

I think that works by people like Wyrmshadow, Sandris, Pounder, Steph, Goldfool, and all the others uploading files may be one of the main factors in 3 staying alive. So, if any of them are reading this: KEEP GOING!!!:goodjob:

No, your lucky. 99.9% of people at my school have never even heard of civ.

Also, your sig "At 15, I am currently one of, if not, the youngest civIII fanatic! " I'm 13.

We will just see how things turn out when V comes out. If it is done right, many of the stragglers will jump. Everyone likes pretty, but that does not hold you for all that long. Now that the complete version for IV is coming out, that suggest no work will be done on IV.

I wish that I could help to develop the gameplay for V..... That would be awesome. How do they know what the actual players think about the game?

Now that is good news. Any specifics?

I have civ3 and i think its the best. Civ4 is ok i guess but civ3 will always be around, just like civ2.

I played the demo for IV, twice. Didn't like it much. But now that Complete is coming out, I'm thinking of picking it up eventually.

I wouldn't consider Civ3 endangered - there's plenty of people who prefer it, as CFC shows [just look at the people browsing the C&C forum at any one time], and it still picks up a decent number of newcomers thanks to its low price. I know several people who prefer it to Civ4 myself, although not all of them are actively playing it at this time (schoolwork of various other games such as Empire Total War taking their Civ time, and one treacherously playing CivRev). I also know at least one person who prefers Civ4 to Civ3, and several others who play Civ4 and may or may not have played Civ3. And my roommate prefers Civ2 to any of them.

Which makes me realize that next year I'll be a Civ3 player living with a Civ2 player and a Civ4 player. Now I just have to get my final flatmate to become a Civ1 player and we'll have the whole series spanned!

Now if Civ5 comes out and is really good, then perhaps Civ3 could be in a bit of danger. Even so, my guess is Civ4 will go much quicker after Civ5 comes out than Civ3 will after Civ4 came out (it's still going strong now!). If it doesn't, I'll be pretty disappointed in Civ5.

What better graphics?? I think the unit graphics in Civ 4 are really cruel. Civ 3 in my eyes has much better graphics.
Civ 4 invented the "chocolate gun" (No offense against the creator of that unit. He did a good job, but had to do it with the poor graphical means of Civ 4):

What matters the most is the gameplay, not the graphics.

I like Civ 4 better than Civ 3, Civ 4 is the game that let me realise that civilization is a pretty fun game, I went here to check about civilization 3 just because of civilization 4. Of course, I'm not saying that civ 4 is better than civ 3. It depends on your perception between these two good games.

I've never played civ 4, I was thinking of getting it but realised that it probably wouldn't work too well on my laptop, but civ 3 and civ 2 work perfectly, plus I still don't fully understand how to win on the higher levels in both games so I'll be playing for a fair few years yet :)

My problem is that the "better graphics" of 4 grate on me so much I can't stand to play it! Yes, I'm sure 5 will be "better"....

I love your 'logic'. By better graphics I meant more effects and details. In Civ3, the terrain doesn't move, and the units don't show damage. But I have to agree with Civinator, the unit graphics aren't that good. I only have reguler Civ4, so the gameplay sucks and the scenarios that come with it don't have any special graphics.

Though I play Civilization IV and quite enjoy the gameplay and aesthetics (though I still play CivIII more than CIV), I would find it quite a shame if Civilization III were to die out. That day shall be quite a sad day. :(

The problem with 4 on the regular version is that it tries to force you into buying the expansion packs to make the game better. Now that complete will be out soon, Civ3 players may switch over to 4, but like i said earlier, civ3 will always have a solid player base
