Which Civilization game is the best. I personnally think Civ4 is the best.

Favourite or Best? Best at what? Personally, I like CivIII the best (haven't played 4), but think 2 had the best combat system.

Ive posted this same poll on civ4's general discussion and civ4 is in the lead on that poll I post here and Civ3 is in the lead. Im going to post this same thing on Civ2 general discussion and im almost 100% sure after 1 day of that poll Civ2 is going to be in the lead. Just goes to show it matters what forum you put your threads in ;).

Certainly does, it shouldn't be surprising that we all have a Civ3 bias...

Civ 1 for the thrill
Civ 2 for the fun
Civ 3 for excitement, fun and thrill.
Civ 4 is just eye candy.

Civ III made me wanna puke, everything from the plasticky graphics and the ridiculous "corruption" that prevented my from actually making an empire to the uneven difficulty levels.
It was just so horrible, don't know what it was like with the expansions but that game was damned broken.

Corruption honestly isn't that hard to mod out or reduce, dude. Takes a few clicks and you're done. Voted for 3, BTW.

Ooops.. I broke the poll.. civ 4 is winning :( 16/17

Every time I try to play the first two, I only play a few turns.. It just wasn't my time playing civilization games.. the graphics make me quit. Back then it was better ofcourse, cause that was what graphics looked like then.

I started on the third civilization, and to be honest, I hated it at first. I didn't have the patience to learn the game, Infact I never built any military and I was always wondering why there was always carthage on all of my maps, and why they were always the ones to declare war on me first. I also never built workers or settlers.

When I finally started winning games I enjoyed it, and it was nearly the only game i played for months. I probably played this more then any other civilization game. Reading strategy guides on this website pushed me up to warlord, but I can't understand how everyone else got any higher.

But then I began playing the fourth one, and as started playing it more and more, I played the third version less. It was a hard vote between the two, but now I kinda feel like playing civ 3 again..

Excuse me, Im going to look for that game and see if it works under bootcamp. :)

Corruption is a PITA in CivIII. The one thing that sticks out as unpleasant in an otherwise excellent game.

Especially waste (corrupted shields, as opposed to trade). It's taken me a while to get used to the fact that those red shields just aren't going to come back to you (so why show me them, you sadist!?). There's a lack of effective solutions to corruption in CivIII, leading me to suspect that it's a bit of a sticking-plaster game-balancing measure, rather than a well-designed game mechanic (like unhappiness, or trade rep, or AI attitude, for instance).

Beyond a certain point of empire expansion, Courthouses don't do much. The FP is a tricky beast, effective up to a certain point, but certainly not a magic-pill solution either. Switching to Republic/Democracy from Monarchy doesn't make much difference either (though of course they have other benefits). Communism I haven't tried. The only thing I've found any good is: Civil Engineers. And sticking remote cities onto Wealth, or Beaker/Tax farming.
