Civ4 BTS Patch v3.13 is up

So the changelist says that there can't be a winner if one team already has all the necessary votes. I assume this is for the diplomatic victory.

Does it also apply to resolutions in general? I haven't seen a single AP resolution come up even though I'm at war with a non-member. I'm also the only full member, and have an overwhelming majority of the votes.

If its PC maintenence then people would have been having this problem before the patch right??? Something in the patch is causing instablity in MP.

I agree, it sounds as if multiplayer is somehow bugged with the latest patch. I don't play MP, but I'll try and log on now and see what I get.

And your point is very good about before the patch. However, it really depends on just how much stress the PC is under before and after the patch. 3.03 ran terribly on my PC, but 3.13 runs very smooth.

I really only ask because a bug can't be picked up during QA testing if it is caused by poor hardware configurations or conflicting software. It's only when the software is released and people start trying it on their various systems that some raise their head. Plus, the uninstall through the Start menu very rarely removes all traces of former install; a good registry sweeper and a look through the hard disk is usually needed to remove all traces.

Sorry I'm off on a tangent here... taking my ass to the bug forums. :mischief:

Thank you for the welcome, ;).

So unfortunately, there's no way I can play BTS without re-installing the game to vanilla?

*Edit*: Never mind, running it under XP SP2 compatibility mode worked!

If this is true, this is truly a ******** side-effect. So, do I have to re-apply the "old" Vanilla and Warlords patches now if I apply 3.13? Or will they issue "official" patches that contain these non-changes so that a BtS install is compatible with non-BtS users?

This is simply typical of what I have come to Firaxis. This wholly screws the PBEM community, as there are many vanilla Civ and Warlords PBEM games being played that cannot be loaded by players who have v3.13 of BtS installed. Firaxis simply assumes that everyone owns BtS, and modified the core Civ IV and Warlords assets in a BtS patch.

Thank you, Firaxis, for showing us once again that you don't give a damn about your PBEM players. You well and truly suck.

Do you realize you can have a dual install on your machine? One for your BtS-compatible games (whether Vanilla, Warlords, or BtS), and one for whatever old versions you have going on? It's not even difficult to do....

Fun! OOS (out of sync).... fun, really fun. Way to bleed the fun out of a game by hosing up the multiplayer. Patches are supposed to make the game better, not worse.

I've enjoyed this game for months and months and months with no problems. Now this.... Nice job.

Oh yes, I realize that. But it's not feasible for some of the players in my games. Moreover, it should not be necessary.

Firaxis released the v1.74 and v2.13 patches for Civ IV and Warlords respectively in July, maintaining compatibility with BtS. They did not do so this time, and because Firaxis is not forthcoming with any such information we have no idea if or when they plan to do so. I have learned not to expect even a modicum of customer service from them.

I currently administrate 25 PBEM games, and have administrated Civilization PBEM games since the release of Civilization III: Play the World. They have a long history of being inconsiderate or outright oblivious to the needs of the PBEM community, and this is yet another straw on our backs.

I'm not in position to judge on the latter, but feel free to comment on why you feel so.

On the former, based on my understanding of the process, I can't imagine why it wouldn't be feasible.

I guess I'm not saying I disagree... I just don't get it. ;)

I have the same :)

The reasons for both are simple. It's not feasible for some of my players to maintain a dual installation because they do not have the secondary storage space to spare on it.

As to why it should not be necessary, it's because the onus is on the developer to make the game playable. Consumers as a class do not want to have to tinker with or hack a game just so that they can play it. When a developer releases a game that is designed so that multiple installations of the game can interact cross-platform, the developer is committing itself to maintaining that cross-platform compatibility. Failing to do so, as Firaxis/Aspyr failed to do in July with PC and Mac and as Firaxis is now failing to do with BtS and non-BtS, tends to piss one's customers off a great deal.

But then again, Firaxis doesn't care about their PBEM customers.

Gyathaar tells me (and I have no way to verify it) that the change that's made by the 3.13 patch is to install a new version of CivGameCoreDLL.dll in the top level folder of your Civ4 software installation.

To revert your patched vanilla installation it should, therefore, be possible to delete this file and run the vanilla 1.74 patch installer to reinstate the old version of the DLL. This should then play the existing GOTM/WOTM/SGOTM games.

If you then want to run BtS 3.13 you will need to copy your reverted Civ4 installation and re-apply the BtS patch to the copy to create a dual installation.

Just a FYI.

I recently started using a "New Civ Module" (aranors Australian Civ), and none of the save games will now load. However save games pre-module load fine.

The problem is the mod itself. It does not seem to be recognised by BTS 3.13.

Have checked the config file and it still has module loading = 1. However when I select Custom Game, the leader and the country from the module are not on the lists.

Is there something I'm missing, has this affected the config file in some other way?

Instead of trawling through 13 pages of posts, has anyone said whether the AI now use Stealth Ships in Final Frontier? Or know how to take out mine?
This is the main fix I've been waiting for and it's not mentioned in the patch notes.

I took my laptop today with me and all the patches to play fully patched. I installed the newest BTS patched which seemed sucessful and applied the forum member unofficial patch.
When I tried to load the game I had been playing it said I had ver 3.0!
SO I reinstalled the patches (Btw I was patched up previously as well) and the same thing happened.
Did a quick search and found all the new files had been put into the wrong folders. Anything that should have been in the root Civ4 folder was on C: and the BTS changes were in C:\Windows\*
Since I didn't have the full set of CDs to reinstall the game I spent about an hour copying the files into the correct folders.

Maybe some of these errors others have are the installer using the wrong folders?

BTW I do not use the default folders. I use
c:\games\strategy\Civ4....
BTS and prior patches have installed fine.
