I was able to get my old copy of Civ 4 running in Vista with the help of this board, so I'm hoping that I can get this version working. My hopes that it would be seemless since the case says "Vista" on it were dashed rather quickly. Doesn't Firaxis even bother to test this stuff?
I had the same problem as other users, I installed, no icons were made anywhere, and autorun on the DVD brings me to Colonization. I'm running 64 bit vista on a home machine with plenty of hardware and up to date drivers.
Anyway, I've done some research already and tried the suggestions. I installed from the DVD, twice (installed, uninstalled in frustration, reinstalled). After the second install, I found a thread on this board that said if I found the program folders and ran the applications/made shortcuts from there I would be golden. This turned out not to be the case.
I installed all the programs (Civ 4, BtS, Warlords, Colonization). I found the folders in Program Files x86. I went to attempt to run the applications from this folder, but when I double click on the applications nothing happens. Nothing at all. I tried running as administrator, and nothing happened again. It also doesn't work after I've created my own shortcut and stuck it on the Desktop.
Help!! I have a very, very old copy of the game but I want to play with the newly released expansions. I finally got around to obtaining this release when I got a gift card for Christmas. Any help with this cluster---- would be greatly appreciated.
