Hello Applites. My 69 year old mom would like to give it a go, seeing how much time I spend on this game. She is the owner of a mac book pro, os X 10.5.8, with a 2.4 Ghz intel core 2 duo, and 2 gigs of Ram.
To see if she'd actually like the game, I wanted to download the demo, and ended up with a dmg file that tells me in french that the "codec" is "dépassé" probably meaning here "out of date".
The problem here is triple : my very limited expertise is PC only, hers is close to nil, and she won't be keen on any solution that would involve too much tinkering. She suffered before in the hands of a Windows 2000 os and have sworn never to dabble too much when things are working fine.
Is there any simple solutions so I can hook her on this digital crack ?

Did you try continuing past the "dépassé" warning? Civ4 is noted for its ability to tell you your hardware is inadequate when in fact it's just not in Civ4's list of supported configurations. Perhaps this warning is the same. Normally you can continue and get into the game anyway.

If this message is in fact a fatal error then You will probably not be able to use the demo.

Note that as far as I know the demo is from a very early version, so may not be as stable as, or even representative of, the real software.
