Having read about the technical difficulties many experienced with Civ4, I decided to try out the demo before I buy the game. The demo starts up and runs perfectly for about 5 mins and then my computer turns off. I tried many times and the result is invariably the same. I can stay on the opening screen (view of Mediterranean Sea from space) indefinitely, but as soon as I start a game (either the demo or the tutorial), the problem always surfaces somewhere between 5 and 6 mins into gameplay (I timed it).
There is no error message, no crash, nothing. There is a brief pause, maybe a second, and then the screen turns black and the computer is suddenly in the off state. As if someone had pulled the power cord and the battery at the same time.
Is anybody else seeing a similar problem? Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this?
System spec: IBM ThinkPad R50p with Win2K SP4, 1.7GHz, 1GB memory, ATI MOBILITY FIRE GL T2 video card with 128MB memory.
