Civ4 PitBoss Available

Well I have tried to run pitboss, both on the computer I am playing on, and on another. Works beautifully.
But...I am in the middle of a normal PBEM game, and would like to change some parameters in the game so that I...
1) Have simultaneous turns
2) Have a time limit for every turn

Is it possible to change the savefile to achieve this?
Does anybody know how?

There is a converter program to make a PBEM into a PB but editing existing PBEM to stay as a PBEM Dont know how unless the converter can be manipulated some how.

I have a few questions about Pitboss and Warlords-Pitboss.

  1. Was the email issue ever fixed in Pitboss?
  2. Does email work in the Warlords-Pitboss?
  3. Why does the Warlords-Pitboss have a lower version number than the Pitboss version for the base game released three months earlier?
  4. Is there any documentation about the use of Pitboss?

That should do it for now.

Thanks in advance for any helpful responses.

Okay I am still frustrated with this. I am running Pitboss on a Windows 2003 Server and I still can't get the email to work. Is anyone else running Pitboss this way? Do I need to make sure any particular services are running that are normally disabled in 2003 Server?

Help!

Unless your email service uses port 25, the pitboss internal email mechanism won't work.

Thanks for your response.

I didn't change anything with the SMTP service so it should be on port 25 by default. I'll double check when I get home, but I doubt this is the problem.

Okay, I double checked the server. SMTP service is set to automatic and is started. The router firewall has ports 2056 and 25 open both directed to the server's internal IP Address.

You do also need to check that the SMTP server routes mail correctly. If you send mail through the server does it get through? Fixing the SMTP service configuration on a Windows 2003 server is going to be beyond the scope of this forum though.

I am using my ISP email account to send the emails. I have entered all that information correctly.

I was hoping someone else might have this set up with a similar configuration. I also have an email out to 2kgames.

The e-mail does work in Pitboss. Try to set up Outlook Express on that computer, fill in the same account information and try to e-mail.

I strongly suggest that you take a look on the CivStats application. Easy installation and it really makes e-mail notify obsolete, since you have all information you need on the web page.

That being said, the really should fix the in-game email feature. Not everyone who wants to try Pitboss is going to lurk at these forums or want to run a third party program.

It's sloppy to leave it as-is.

Soo many pages, and I did not find anything about this, but sorry
if I am asking the same question again.

I was just wondering, if I am hosting a pitboss server, and then the computer or pitboss crashes, is the games automatically saved once per turn??
where in that case??

By the way, I am hosting a PitBoss game on a winME computer, and so far everything works fine.

ok. I have now started a pitboss server.
It works well, with one big annoyance.
Time lag!!! For every 24 hours of play, the server lags a little more than 3 hours!!
Ok, I do not run the fastest of computers for it but a P3 800Mhz with 512Mb RAm and windows ME should be enough to run PitBoss.
Besides, apart for this annoying time lag, everything else works fine, and
the computer clock does show the right time, so one wonders hos firaxis programmed their timer!!

Does anybody else experience this problem???
And if any of you from Firaxis read this, could you fix the problem??

Also, the pitboss program expands vertically all the way on the screen. A scrollbar would be a nice addition.

Another matter with my PitBoss server.
It seems that pitboss freezes, so I can'tdo anything within the pitboss program, but the server still works, and the timer counts down.

:-( its kind of bad programming that they can't fix it so that it follows the system clock, instead of lagging.
Anyone that has computed a ratio for how much it lags?
Mine seems to lag about 3:15 hours/24 hours this, as I said before,
on a P3 800Mhz 521 Mbytes RAM
Or is the lagging not linked to the hardware just a bad software?

Seems to be crashing as well

Also so strange. The server worked fine in the beginning with a
couple players logged in, but now when I load the save PitBoss freezes?!?!
I mean PB works, and counts down but I can't do anything in the server window??
We are 5 players on the server, and 6 AIs.
Does PB not work with more then 3 players???

/MensSana

This is the first I have herd of that limit so my guess is that the heavy graphix involve4d in CIV is somehow putting a strain on it.

There is not much graphics in the PitBoss window?!?

Or did you mean the client window?? The actual civilization 4 does not freeze but the pitboss software window!
