A few questions. Our clan has been using PitBoss for a while now - first for vanilla Civ IV, then Warlords, and lately with ViSa mod 2.1.
1) Did the way the PitBoss server works change at all from Civ IV to Warlords? I seem to recall that in the original PitBoss all each computer needed to do was have a heartbeat with the PitBoss server itself. But in Warlords, it seems to need to grab a heartbeat with every online player. For our games using ViSa mod (going heavily through a wireless connection), it's brought our computers to their knees.
2) Should it reasonably be expected that a P-III computer with a 100 Mips connection should be able to host a Warlords PitBoss? How about if it has a GigE connection?
3) Is there any benefit to using PitBoss on a P-III if all your players will be always be playing multiplayer at the same time and have P-IV or above computers? I'm thinking that maybe the most powerful computer among us should host, while the rest of us should just direct IP to them instead. Could a P-III Pitboss actually be a bottleneck?
Thanks, - Chuck
