The statements concerning the many bugs at launch were very much valid.

It can all be summed up in one simple phrase:

"I'm scared of change"

I hope everyone who hates Civ 5 and loves Civ 4 goes back and plays Civ 4. I hope they are happy playing it, I truly do. As for me, I'll be playing Civ 5.

And the difference between then and now is...?

That there aren't nearly as many technical problems with V as there were with IV? :dunno:

 Right on, thank you for this.

I remember people railing against Civ III mightily because it wasn't Civ II as well. Of course, Civ III was easily the worst of the series, IMO.

The technical problems people had with Civ IV upon first release were apparently fairly bad. People seem to forget all that stuff, or they came on board once everything was patched and with the expansions so they don't remember how it was to start.

lol......shocking. Truly.

And I definitely remember all the complaints about certain units defeating others and how that should NEVER ever happen. A lot of raging about that.

Great thread :D The truth is simple - many people are anticipating next civilization game so badly that they create in their minds their ideal Civ game and then... anticipate it will look exactly like in their dreams. One small difference between reality and dreams - and madness comes pretty quickly.

There are three or four things in that game which are a bit annoying but overall I am very happy that I will soon have new Civ game. I do not complain, I am simply happy. Who would guess that there is a stereotype that we, Poles, like to complain about everything and cannot enjoy anything. Seems like many people from abroad have bigger problems with this.

quoted for truth!

If you look at the subject headers, not all the complaints were technical. Remember the first time you saw Spearmen beat Tank? Haven't heard anybody :):):):):) about that in a while...

The vast majority of them were technical complaints. If they were trying to demonstrate how much people were complaining back then about the changes, they failed.

The people complaining about the differences between III & IV are most likely not the same people complaining about the differences between IV & V.

Hehehe, it's just like World of Warcraft and their upcoming expansion. My wife has been kvetching non-stop about this and that and I've told her, like I'm telling you "civ 4 is better" guys: This is how it is now. You have two choices, stick with the old or adapt to the new. If I can do it with warrior nerfs, I can certainly do it to a stack-of-doomless Civ game... I hate those things.

Don't fence-sit. Make the hard choices and evaluate them here and there. If Civ 5's major problems (AI) get ironed out, that's great. Hey, the game'd be cheaper right? If WoW nerfs a class, choose another or deal with your cards.

Kvetching doesn't solve problems, decisive action does. Stop deconstructive complaining. State your point, state your proof, and leave it to Firaxis to iron it out. They made the game after all. All you can do is make sure your point is seen... put it on a sticky "please do this in patch" thread or something.

I still can't believe they added Spy units in Civ 2. Civilization died then!

While I utterly agree with that statement, there is a surprising number of people who prefer Civ III over CivIV. AFAIK, it's the micromanagement crowd - which is fairly displeased with the reduction in micromanagement in 4 and 5 (personally, I think micro is evil, but each to their own).

Cheers, LT.

I predict the same thing will happen when Civ VI will come out. And it will be even more devastating and loud because more brainless morons will have good computers and internet connection. I am sorry to say this, but such emotional complaining is stupid. If you don't like it - it's your personal problem. Do not make it "the end of the world" or something like that. Find a game which you like and play it. Do not touch this new game if you don't like it. It really can't be simplier than that.

I don't get the hate for Civ 3. I found it a wonderful experience. (But then I've enjoyed -every- Civ, having adored it since age of 6)

Plus it had one of the best ways to handle ZoC with opportunity fire, ranged combat AND the way the artillery units were designed was fantastic. Military hardware that could be captured.

I like 5 has decided to bring back ranged combat and I hope for a mod to add opportunity fire and even bring in a SMAC element of "ranged combat duels" because right now, the lack of ranged counter attacking is pretty advantageous to me.

I hate micromanagement, but I like III over IV. I do prefer V to IV, though. Go figure. :crazyeye: If it wasn't for the city Governors & sliders, I would probably like III the least.
