For some reason my computer won't recognize any dvd disc anymore after 2 days of playing Civ4 and the hard disc is so fragmented due to the heavy use of virtual memory that my entire computer is slow. I tried updating the drivers of my dvd player again, but the driver executable file is giving me nothing but gibberish language. (LG DRD-8160B)

THis is really annoying me, I was going to get a new computer some time soon, but that won't be until a month or 2... and I definitely hope I can play this game until then and hope it won't wreck that new computer as well!

You can (and should) defrag, for starters. I just cleaned up my entire system and defragged.

Afterwards, change your virtual memory so it stays a constant size (custom with min=max).

As for your dvd, simply find the drivers, uninstall it in device manager, and reboot.

Yes, defrag, something you should be doing on a semiregular basis anyway, and make sure your virtual memory is fixed. As for the dvd rom problem, I don't know how that came about...
