Has anyone heard anything about a potential Civ6?

Are they still trying to fix Civ5, or have they moved on with plans for a new iteration?

I expect Gods and Kings to get 6 - 12 months active support from Firaxis, at the end of which time development of Civ 6 will be well underway, and I predict we will see Civ6 by 2014 (the year Windows XP SP3 dies).

God knows what Civ6 will have in store, I actually think Civ5 is the pinnacle of civ games so far.

Given that Civ5 was in many ways a reboot of the Civ franchise I think there is plenty of room to grow. Civ2 to Civ4 followed a pretty straight course of ever more complex mechanics based around managing negative consequences. Civ5 flipped that around and radically simplified the number of mechanics. Now it's more about positive mechanics that overlap with each other which opens up a lot of room for creativity (the game provides rewards for big strategy ideas instead of being only micro management tricks).

Certainly one place to go is AI. Civ4 and prior didn't make much of the AI, treating it like a spreadsheet to be manipulated (if I do this, the AI will respond like this every single time). Civ5 took the first steps toward a more human and selfish AI. It needs a lot of work, both in the AI (esp. combat tactics) and the mechanics it can work with (esp. diplomacy options) but it has the potential for an AI that can challenge the player without the need for overwhelming bonuses.
