CivCity Rome

It is released. I picked it up today, along with Warlords.

I've yet to try it out, though. I love empire- and city building games :)

Caesar 4 is coming out soon as well :)

guys there's already a thread on it below (minus the colon in the title). And yes it is out already.

I dont know...I have seen it and it seems to lack the depth that you would associate with the engine. I just dont think it will end up being an all around good game like Civ IV though i think it will be fun for a while it wont have much replay value though.

I am actually suprised that it was not well advertised. I knew about it from this site but i have seen little or no advertising for the game.

this thread originated in the Civ4 forum. a moderator moved it. and that's why there are now two threads about it :)

oh i see. Interesting enough, the CivCity Rome thread started in this fashion as well ;)

I got the game today, it's great!
I like how you must find some way to build up your city, but I have the problem with there being too many things to build, or not enough to keep my citizens alive.

However, it is nifty to see my Roman citizens running around. I'm glad that I bought it.

I'm a tester for the game, been playing it for a few months. Wrote a brief review over at Apolyton's forums in case anyone cares. In summary: it's a fun little game, probably not the best city builder ever (but I haven't played all that many to be honest so I wouldn't really know), but I enjoyed playing it.

The water looks terrible. It's counterpart, Glory of the Roman And the advisor keeps telling me my granary is empty every 2 minutes. I'm turning that bastard off and replacing it with a podcast.

I was annoyed by this as well when I first started playing, until I figured out that not only your housed citizens eat food, but unhoused ones as well -- and they only eat from granaries, not from shops. So always keep one or more granaries well-stocked on top of what you need to get food to your housed citizens, it'll keep your unhoused people happy and you avoid those stupid messages ;)

Will you be able to mod this game as much as Civ 4?

There's a decent map editor, most of the game stats and mechanisms are exposed in XML and Lua (a scripting language similar to Python) and the art and sound resources are in common formats, so it should be every bit as moddable as Civ4 (bar the SDK, I doubt they'll release one for this game).

Unfortunately AFAIK there are no dedicated fan sites for this game, so I'm not sure if we'll actually see many people publishing mods.

Why not try www.civcityforums.com . This isn't the 'official' forum but it is very slick in the style of the 'Heaven Games' forums and has been visited by some of the devs, who have given help and suggestions. There are plenty of people discussing mods. Hope this helps. My copy of the game should arrive tomorrow and I can't wait. Never mind the reviews, I'll make up my own mind. :)

Thanks for the link, I'll definitely be following that forum :goodjob:

Wow, that site really hit the ground running!! It only went online 3 days ago but already is the #1 hit on google, has hundreds of posts and several designers posting. Most webmasters can only dream of such a start...

Thank You so much for the link!

I wasn't going to post (the other, ignorantly critical, CivCity thread was a downer) but here's a couple of fun things not yet mentioned:

You can move houses around at will. You can also reassign jobs, but moving is usually easier when the homeowner is too far from his work. The first dwellings are "country" huts/hovels that upgrade in place. When you achieve the upgrade from large hovel to small insula, you must manually move the house to a new lot or to become the second story of a downtown business! The latter is desirable because it frees up much needed land. Finally upon the upgrade from large insula to small domus, the house must again be relocated to the "country".

I'm enjoying this game alot and hope people will try for themselves before deciding.

Thanks for the link. That's exactly what I was looking for. For you nay sayers.

"Oh it's just another city builder" Big deal..... If you like city building you'll like this game. Yes it's like Caesar, but there are many differances to keep your attention.
