CivDip XVII: Radio Free Europe

No takers so far on the replacement position. We're four days away from the start of the holiday break (Dec 20 - Jan 4) so I'm declaring the game on hold until we return from holidays.

I have only had one vote (yea) on revealing identities, but it looks from the post above like Kitten is in favour of it as well, so I plan to go ahead and reveal them unless anyone emails me with objections before Sunday night. In the meantime, feel free to guess, but keep in mind that you've got to guess who the originals were, before the replacements. Then, if you want to go for the advanced level, feel free to guess who the replacements were. I'll tell you now that the replacement Tsar was not a CFCer, so don't bother trying to guess his identity.

Finally, in furtherance of our search for a new Austria, and assuming we do drop the gunboat...does anyone have Gnarfflinger's email address? I seem to be without it now, and wish I could ask him if he'd be willing to fill in.

You can use my screenname at gmail dot com for this purpose.

I've had one guess by email. I'll give the rest of you another day to get a guess in...then I'm revealing identities.

As for continuing the game, I'm hoping we'll have a new Austria and get back to business in the first week of January.

Oh, it is blindingly obvious England is Keirador.

Yeah, you're right. It's not that hard to tell who I am in any given game. Just look for who's winning.
Now I'm considerably less skilled at guessing identities. . . let's give it a try anyway.
Dreadnought was Russia.
Taliesin was France.
Kitten was Turkey.
Toasty was Austria.
Gnarfflinger was Germany.
Stapel was Italy.

Hmm. Okay, Kitten are you limiting your guess to the power with the most SCs?

Gnarf has kindly consented to come back as our third Austrian leader. All hail Gnarfflinger!!!

We'll stick to the scheduled break of Dec. 20 - Jan 4 unless anyone needs more time. I'll set Friday January 6 at 11:59pm GMT as our new deadline for Spring, 1908.

I'm waiting one more day for any guesses before I spill the beans.

PS: Remember, gents, that we're still in a broadcast-only game here. Gunboat is being dropped but you are still required to do all your communication through the game forum.

Yeah, yeah, tell that to those Clash of the Titans and in the Gunboat game...

Actually, I was Italy.

I had Kierador pegged as England, Kitten as France, Between Stapel and taleisin you have Russia and Turkey.

Dreadnaught may have been one of the ones that dropped (original Austria left about the time he had to leave).

I don't know about Germany/second Austria...

I had Keirador as England, kitten as Turkey, Dreadnought as the original Germany, Stapel as Austria, and Toasty and Gnarfflinger as Russia and Italy (but I couldn't guess which was which). I'm France, evidently.

Thanks for your guesses, folks. Looks like Keirador came closest at 5/7 correct. The actual starting line-up was:

Taliesin - France
Dreadnought - Russia
Stapel - Germany
Keirador - England
Gnarfflinger - Italy
Toasty - Austria
kittenOFchaos - Turkey

Since Gnarf copped to being Italy when he was eliminated, I'm not sure why anyone got that one wrong. Anyway, I also invited you to guess at substitute identities for bonus points...but nobody really had much hope of getting these ones right (although Kitten seemed to think he knew who our recently defunct Austrian leader was). So here is the history of departures and replacements since Winter 1900:

  • Toasty disappeared around September 4/05 (before Spring 01!) -- Replaced by Temporal Anomaly
  • Stapel NMRed and abandoned October 1/05 -- Replaced by ambuel
  • Temporal Anomaly NMRed and abandoned October 14/05 -- Replaced by ambuel (Germany left in CD at 1 SC)
  • Dreadnought NMRed October 14/05 and October 23/05 -- Replaced by Earl Grey
  • Earl Grey NMRed November 25/05 and December 2/05 -- Russia at 2 SCs in CD
  • ambuel NMRed November 18/05 and December 9/05 -- Replaced by Gnarfflinger
Whew! Doesn't seem like we had so much chaos in this game until you line it all up in a row like that!

Anyway, remember that we're back in business with Gnarfflinger graciously calling the shots for Austria. We're still playing broadcast-only through the official game board, and the new Spring 08 deadline is Fri. Jan 6/06 at 11:59 GMT. Thanks!

So if the gunboat aspect is out, then if you re-enstate the Italian King alias, then I can get back in business...

You should now be able to post again as ItalianKing. Give it a try and let me know if there are problems.

Add to the NMRs Keirador and Talinsin - builds.

Hasn't Keirador NMR'ed twice on builds and so need to be replaced...hehe.
